2 Game NHL Parlay – Maple Leafs vs. Capitals and Predators vs. Flames
January 16, 2010
There is only 2 games in the NHL on Friday. 3 pretty good teams are in action and unfortunately, one terrible team is involved too.
Toronto Maple Leafs (16-23-9) at Washington Capitals (28-12-6)
When: 7:00 PM ET, Friday, January 15, 2010
Where: Verizon Center, Washington, District Of Columbia
- The Washington Capitals rank 1st on offense, averaging 3.6 goals per game. They are 24.3% on the power play and have 43 power play goals.
- The Toronto Maple Leafs ranked 18th on offense, and average 2.6 goals per game. The Leafs are 17.6% on the power play and have scored 30 power play goals.
- The Capitals average 3.8 goals per game at home, and give up 2.7 goals against on defense.
- The Maple Leafs average 2.9 goals per game on the road, and give 3.8 goals against on defense.
Toronto Maple Leafs – +200
The Toronto Maple Leafs are nearing the cellar in the NHL standings and for good reason – they aren’t very good. They are 2-7-1 in their last 10 games including 4 straight losses. They enter Friday’s game after an impressive 4-0 win over Philadelphia but C’mon!! To even think about betting on the Leafs to beat the Capitals is absurd.
Washington Capitals – -240
The Washington Capitals are officially in the Top Tier of NHL teams. They haven’t been so great lately (6-4-0 in their last 10), but they are a talented team that usually has to beat itself in order to lose. This could be a classic “trap game” in which the Caps bring a “B” effort, but its highly unlikely. Washington should simply beat up on the Leafs.
Pick: Washington Capitals – no matter the NHL hockey odds.

Nashville Predators (28-16-3) @ Calgary Flames (26-15-6)
When: 9:00 PM ET, Friday, January 15, 2010
Where: Pengrowth Saddledome, Calgary, Alberta
- The Calgary Flames rank 19th on offense, and average 2.6 goals per game. The Flames are16.6% on the power play and have 27 power play goals.
- The Nashville Predators rank 10th on offense, and average 2.8 goals per game. The Predators are 16.7% on the power play and have scored 29 power play goals.
- The Flames average 2.5 goals per game at home, and give up 2.6 goals against on defense.
- The Predators average 3.1 goals per game on the road, and give up 3.0 goals against on defense.
Nashville Predators – +125
Incredibly, the Nashville Predators are ahead of the Flames in the Western Conference standings. They are a team of relative no-names that have gelled pretty well together. There is no star power on this team, but there is a good system that all of the players play within. They are extremely well coached and play hard every night. This lunch bucket team gives their opposition fits night in and night out.
Calgary Flames – -145
The Calgary Flames are in a dogfight in their division and in the Conference as usual. Every win or loss seems to result in a jump or a dip in the standings. This is another one of those games. Win and the Flames could be in 3rd place in the Conference, lose, and they could be in 7th. The Flames have to start playing better particularly at home. It’s high time that the Calgary Flames make a run and establish themselves as contenders because right now, they are not.
Pick: Calgary Flames – They are overdue
