PGA Betting – Tournament Matchups at the Chevron World Challenge

December 3, 2009

The tournament matchup wagers in the BetOnline Sportsbook lack Tiger Woods, not profitable opportunities.

The BetOnline odd makers have done a fantastic job, like they do every week, at putting together terrific golf betting wagers under the tournament matchup category. Below are a few of the better matchups to breakdown.

Let’s take a look at those right now.

Chevron World Challenge Tournament Matchups

  1. Lee Westwood -120 vs. Padraig Harrington -110 – - Westwood has been on fire lately winning the Portugal Masters in October and the Dubai World Championship in November. He’ll be looking to put together another victory in the Chevron but Paddy Harrington has always had more success than Lee in the United States. I suspect the same thing will happen and how often do gamblers get Harrington at better odds than his opponent in a tournament matchup.

    Pick: Padraig Harrington

  2. Steve Stricker -120 vs. Jim Furyk -110 – - Stricker is the new “best player other than Tiger” in the United States. He just made the cover of Golf Digest, but there’s a big different between Stricker and Furyk that gamblers should know about. When Stricker is on, he closes the deal. Furyk is always on but never closes the deal. What does Stricker do when he’s off? He has the tendency to finish out of the Top 10 and sometimes out of the Top 30. I expect Furyk to be on top of his game on this while I’m up in the air regarding Stricker who may have peaked already in 2009.

    Pick: Jim Furyk

  3. Zach Johnson -130 vs. Anthony Kim Ev – - The shine on Kim has sort of diminished some because he hasn’t won a tournament in 2009 but he’s from L.A. which means that he should have some knowledge of the Sherwood Course in Torrance. Johnson has two victories on the PGA Tour in 2009 and is ranked 4th on the money list. He appears to be coming into this very well. So, Johnson is the pick.

    Pick: Zach Johnson

  4. Lucas Glover -120 s. Justin Leonard -110 – - This one shouldn’t be close. Leonard has become strictly a Texas type player. When the native of Texas tees off in his own state, he seems to play well. When he doesn’t, he could end up out of the Top 50. Lucas Glover won the U.S. Open this year as well as finishing in the Top 25 in numerous events. Glover is the man to go with in this.

    Pick: Lucas Glover

  5. Paul Casey -110 vs. Kenny Perry -120 – - Casey should be over the injury that had him playing way below his usual level this past summer. Perry should have his game back as well after tailing off some. This is an intriguing matchup and gamblers could go either way, but Perry excels in these type of events and should do just enough to beat Casey. If gamblers do like Perry to beat Casey in this matchup, then they should think about betting Perry to win this entire tournament as his odds are a juicy +2000 right now in the sportsbook.

    Pick: Kenny Perry

  6. Sean O’Hair -115 vs. Martin Kaymer -115 – - Kaymer just isn’t being given the respect that he should in this matchup. O’Hair did win the Quail Hollow Championship, but Kaymer has won two tournaments in 2009 including The Barclays Scottish Open. Kaymer’s been awesome on the European Tour and should be able to take his game to Torrance.

    Pick: Martin Kaymer

Tiger Woods affair story

December 3, 2009

In a shocking, stunning story the world’s No. 1 ranked golfer Tiger Woods admitted to extramarital affairs on his website read here .

In a statement released by Woods Wednesday morning, the golfer said:

I have let my family down and I regret those transgressions with all of my heart. I have not been true to my values and the behavior my family deserves. I am not without faults and I am far short of perfect. I am dealing with my behavior and personal failings behind closed doors with my family. Those feelings should be shared by us alone.
I will strive to be a better person and the husband and father that my family deserves. For all of those who have supported me over the years, I offer my profound apology.

For Woods, the rumors of indiscretion started the day after Thanksgiving, when he was involved a dangerous one car accident near his home in Windmere, FL. The crash left his face bruised and cut with a mouth full of blood. After hearing the sound of the crash from their home, Woods’ wife came out and got her husband out of the car.

As time passed, many began to wonder whether the injuries Woods suffered were in line with that of a one-car, slow moving crash. And as TMZ.com and other celebrity gossip sites began to jump on the story, many began to realize that it may have been a case of Woods and his wife Elin Nordegren Woods becoming involved in a domestic dispute.

After the incident, and over the last several days, many women have come out and claimed to have had affairs with Woods, who’s been married to Nordegren since 2004.

The rumors started over the weekend, with a woman named Rachel Uchitel originally involved as Woods’ partner. However, after much scrutiny, Uchitel denied any affair, although admitting that she had a professional relationship with Woods on a few occasions.

However, as of Tuesday, a report surfaced on TMZ.com that a Los Angeles cocktail waitress named Jaimee Grubbs had been having a 31-month affair with Woods. Grubbs provided the website a voicemail from Woods, in which he requested she change her voicemail, because “My wife might be calling.” (To listen to the full audio of the message, click here).

Later on Wednesday, it was also reported that a Las Vegas nightclub promoter named Kalika Moquin may have had an affair with Woods.

This is a devastating personal blow for one of the not only the world’s top athletes, but also a previously marketable family man. Woods has two children with Nordegren, and previously had a seemingly unblemished personal life. He has also become one of corporate America’s most popular corporate pitchmen, with endorsement deals with Nike, Cadillac, American Express totaling over $117 million in 2008 alone.

Please continue to check BetOnline.com as we will continue to cover the event, as more details become available.
