NHL – Western Conference Matchups Highlight Tuesday Night Slate

December 22, 2009

NHL Tuesday Preview

NHL betting has just three games on the schedule for Tuesday night. Teams are going all out before the brief holiday break. Here’s an inside look at Tuesday’s matchups:

San Jose Sharks at Chicago Blackhawks

San Jose finally snapped a five-game losing skid with a win over Anaheim last Thursday and had had an extended break heading into Monday’s game against Dallas. The San Jose Sharks credit their aggressive play for last week’s win. San Jose set the tone in the first period, firing 18 shots on goal and eventually overwhelming the Ducks for four goals. That outpouring gave goaltender Evgeni Nabokov some needed support on the scoreboard. Nabokov hasn’t played poorly in recent games, he’s just hasn’t had the support of his offense.

The Chicago Blackhawks are on fire, winning four straight games heading into Tuesday’s matchup. Chicago is getting stellar play from goaltender Cristobal Huet, who recorded his second shutout in his last two starts against the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday. Huet turned away 20 shots in that 3-0 win, and he stopped 27 shots versus the St. Louis Blues for another 3-0 shutout win last Wednesday. The Blackhawks have played under the NHL betting total in eight of their last 10 games.

Anaheim Ducks at Colorado Avalanche

Colorado Avalanche is fighting to stay on top of the Northwest Division. The Avalanche faced the Minnesota Wild on Monday before hosting the Ducks. Tuesday’s game will be the team’s third game in the last four days. Colorado is a much better bet at home this season, posting a 10-6 record inside the Pepsi Center. The Avs are hoping that home-ice advantage can snap a four-game losing streak against the Ducks.

Anaheim Ducks has won three of its last four contests heading into Tuesday. The Ducks’ most recent victory was a 4-2 win over the Phoenix Coyotes. They got solid play from their third and fourth lines in that contest, which combined for two goals against the Coyotes. Anaheim is improving on the power play after struggling with the man advantage earlier in the year. The Ducks scored twice on the power play Saturday and have a power-play efficiency of over 23 percent – second-best in the NHL.

Nashville Predators at Vancouver Canucks

The Nashville Predators are playing their best hockey of the season, winning four straight and six of their last seven contests. Nashville is packing a punch with the puck, scoring 23 total goals during its four-game winning stretch. Three of those wins have come on the road, including a 5-2 victory over Calgary on Saturday in which the Predators outshot the Flames 32-20. Nashville averages more than 30 shots per game, which is 12th in the NHL.

Vancouver Canucks lost its most recent game, falling 3-1 to the St. Louis Blues on Sunday. The Canucks have played to the level of their competition, losing three times in the last four games to teams at the bottom of their divisions. Vancouver spoiled scoring chances with careless passes and got poor defensive efforts from its blueliners. The Canucks also went 0-for-4 on the power play while allowing the Blues to net one of their goals on the man advantage.

Guide to Tiger Woods Prop Betting

December 22, 2009

Everybody’s favorite kicking boy, the still incomparable Tiger Woods, will be exiting his yacht some time in 2010 and hitting the golf course again.

There’s no doubt about that. The only reason that the Tiger scandal has erupted the way it has is because El Tigre, unlike Michael Jordan in the 1990’s, doesn’t have a back-up sport to cling to like M.J. did with baseball.

Chuck Barkley? That guy has made a career off of being a buffoon. So, he doesn’t count. He just has to smile and even the police in Phoenix, notorious for sending teenagers directly to tent city, will let Sir Charles off the hook. Check out this artist’s interpretation of the “Tri-idiot-virate”.

Not so for El Tigre. There just wasn’t a back-up plan. Maybe Tiger should think about making a wager on some of these props in the golf sportsbook himself. My phone is on vibrate in case you need me to lay a few bucks for you El Tigre!

When will an illegitimate kid show up?

Once the mother with the illegitimate kid hears wind of El Tigre and Elin signing the divorce papers, she’ll send a message to Tiger’s lawyer and…well, the rest is easy to imagine, right? She’ll wait, of course, until the papers are just about to be signed. That’s in order to get the most she can out of it.

Let’s go with April through July 2010.

Pick: April thru July 2010 at odds of +150

Which mistress will write a book first?

Holly Sampson is a porn star and what’s easier than making a living by having sex? Kind of gross but easy, right? She could write a book, but why write when she can turn on a camera? The odds on Mindy Lawton and Jamie Grubbs aren’t that good and Grubbs is far to annoying for anyone to want be interested in reading a full book about her. A publisher probably will save the advance for someone with a bit more class. That lady will be Rachel Uchitel who has been nothing but sweet and nice since this thing broke.

Get over the guy, Rachel. He will never love you. So, expect Uchitel to discuss her past life, her husband perishing in the September 11th terror attacks, along with her affair with Tiger. The thing is it could be a very poignant book as Uchitel actually has some class and that outsells trash these days if you can get Oprah behind it.

Pick: Rachel Uchitel at +600

Which woman will Tiger spend Christmas with?

His mama, Kultida Woods, is -300. I might consider making that wager except the paparazzi are going to be all over Kultida this week. So, I’m going with Rosy Palm but there aren’t any odds on Rosy. I’d advise skipping this one.

Will Tiger win the next major he enters?

No. Don’t bet it because the odds of -600 are just too low. But, no, he won’t.

Tiger’s misfortune could be someone’s gain! That someone could be you! Log onto the sportsbook and bet on Tiger Props!
