Tennis Betting Verdict: Wayne Odesnik enters this match as the -105 favourite, only marginally less favoured than Sergiy Stakhovsky listed at -135. The generous money line is more a function of home edge than anything else in my opinion is. Odesnik will have the crowd behind him, support that improves his chances of negotiating a second round spot at the expense of the better-ranked Stakhovsky. However, Odesnik is a better clay-courter than he is a hard courter. Stakhovsky has many weapons on this surface. Though he isn’t the most consistent sort, he should still beat Odesnik.

Tennis Betting Verdict: Paul-Henri Mathieu will make his first appearance on the season when he takes on Benjamin Becker in the first round. Mathieu is a talented player but he is notoriously streaky and inconsistent. That he comes into this encounter with no form on the season that tennis bettors could benefit from as a barometer is an unfavourable circumstance. Makes me wonder whether he is worth the risk on the -110 odds at the very least. The bookies marginally favour Becker at -130 and perhaps playing Becker is the smarter bet. Or the totals at Over 22 ½ -125.

Tennis Betting Verdict: Robby Ginepri enters this match as the +140 underdog but he will be the crowd favourite. This could help him punch above his weight class and therefore make him a good bet. However, I remain largely unimpressed by the American. Nothing personal. I just don’t think he has the right tools for a winning game. Andreas Seppi is a much better player in my opinion and he is the correct favourite at -180. I would much rather bet on Seppi than Ginepri.
