WTA Indian Wells Finals Tennis Betting – Jankovic vs. Wozniacki
March 22, 2010
Indian Wells, California – Jelena Jankovic and Caroline Wozniacki are gearing up for a clash in the BNP Paribas Open final, the ultimate prize on the line.
That the women’s title is to be decided by arguably two of the most defensive players on the WTA is interesting (it is the most charitable word I could think of cuz let’s face it, counterpunching tennis is sooo a yawn).
No. 9 Jankovic, in my opinion, one of the most overrated females in the game, enters this match on the heels of some mixed performances at Indian Wells. Prior to Indian Wells Jankovic was clearly off form and struggling in tournament play. Most thought she wouldn’t even make it to the quarters! I suppose, she surprised a few people.
No.4 Wozniacki goes into this match on the back of some convincing wins at Indian Wells, and more importantly, her run here (including her season to date) has ensured her spot as the No.2 player in the WTA rankings.
Jankovic, 25, takes a 3-0 lifetime edge over Wozniacki, 19, into this match, which includes victories at the 2009 Tour Championships and 2008 US Open and Wimbledon.
This is important: Jankovic has won all encounters, trumping Wozniacki on big stages. Also important, Wozniacki has never beaten Jankovic. She will have to snap that negative trend, on a big stage mind, if she is to win the BNP Paribas Open.
Tennis Betting Line:
Jelena Jankovic +2 -115 +115 21½ O -125 U -115
Caroline Wozniacki -2 -125 -155 21½ O -125 U -115
First Set Line:Jelena Jankovic +105 Caroline Wozniacki -145
Match Time: 03:00 PM Eastern Time Sunday March 21, 2010
Tennis Betting Verdict: Jankovic is the proven player of the two and the player with the perfect head-to-head mark, yet she is the underdog in this match at +115. The bookies tipping her so is a function of her dip in form and slip in rankings, and her overall topsy-turvy run at Indian Wells.
Wozniacki enters as the -155 favourite to win outright and the market cast falls in line with Wozniacki’s ascent in the WTA. She will be the newly minted World No.2 on Monday, no matter whether she wins or loses this afternoon.
Wozniacki will be the popular play at -115 but I would maintain, there is more value on Jankovic at +115. She was underestimated in Indian Wells and crept up on us almost out of nowhere. Think we should stop underestimating her.
