College Basketball Top 25 Feb. 28th thru March 6
February 28, 2011
So, some crazy things happened over the past week to shake up my Top 25 Rankings. The Duke Blue Devils, #1 in almost everybody’s poll, couldn’t hang on to the top ranking. The Blue Devils lost to Virginia Tech 64 to 60.
Arizona, who got into my Top 10 last week at #9, ended up losing twice, to USC 65 to 57 and then to UCLA 49 to 71. Bear Down plummets in my poll. One team that rocketed up my poll is the Purdue Boilermakers. Those guys not only beat Ohio State by 13 points, 76 to 63, but they also took down Indiana and then pretty much ended Michigan State’s March Madness Tournament dreams with a 67 to 47 road blow out victory.

#5 Texas Faces Hot Kansas State as Online Betting Fave
February 28, 2011
The hot Kansas State Wildcats travel to Austin to take on the Texas Longhorns as an underdog in the online college basketball betting sports book on Monday, February 28.
K-State has really made a case for not only a berth in the March Madness Tournament, but also for no worse than a 5th or 6th seed. If K-State upsets Texas on February 28th, they might play their way into a Top 4 seed. Keep reading for a preview and free pick for the game.

Likely NCAA Basketball Betting Lines
Kansas State Wildcats +9 ½ -110 O 135 -110
Texas Longhorns -9 ½ -110 U 135 -110
Check out some trends for this game.
- The Kansas State Wildcats are 4 and 0 ATS in their last 4 versus the Big 12.
- The Kansas State Wildcats are 1 and 7 ATS in their last 8 games as an underdog.
- The Texas Longhorns are 4 and 0 ATS in their last 4 games following an ATS loss.
- The K-State Wildcats are 8-1-1 ATS in the last 10 meetings.
The online betting trends obviously favor the Wildcats in this contest. But there are a multitude of other reasons to like K-State versus Texas besides the fact that the trends point hoops handicappers towards them.
One of the hottest players in college basketball right now is Jacob Pullen. He wears Wildcats purple and silver and he’s scored 24 points or more in his last four games. Because of Pullen’s excellent play, K-State has gone 4 and 0 straight up and 4 and 0 against the spread in their last four games.
They’ve beaten decent teams in those 4 games as well, taking down Kansas at home, Nebraska on the road (no easy task this season!), and then squashing ranked Missouri by 10 points, 80 to 70, as -4 ½ point home faves in their last. K-State is playing lights out right now.
They’re gelling at the right time and have to be considered an online betting long shot to actually win the NCAA Tournament this season.
Texas hasn’t been as fortunate lately. The Longhorns were making their way to at least a #2 and possible #1 seed in the tournament, but losses to Nebraska on the road (told you the ‘Huskers were good at home!) 67 to 70 as -6 ½ point favorites, and then to Colorado on the road, 89 to 91, as -6 ½ point favorites, has turned the Longhorns into a #3 seed at best.
They can turn that around, of course, the Big 12 has yet to play their conference tournament, but Texas just isn’t playing as well right now as they were earlier this season.
That should make a difference in the online betting sports book on Monday night. Because the Kansas State Wildcats are en fuego, and because they have a man named Jacob Pullen scoring for them, I have to take the points in this game.
Texas is definitely being overvalued by the odds makers in this matchup. 61% of basketball handicappers prefer the Kansas State Wildcats in this contest given the odds. I’m one of those 61%. I believe that you should ride the hot team until they fall out of the bus.
Kansas State is hot. I’ll back them to cover the spread versus the Texas Longhorns on Monday night.

Feb. 28th
Villanova at Notre Dame – - A lot more is at stake for home team Notre Dame than it is for the Villanova Wildcats. ‘Nova will make the tournament, but their hopes of securing at least a #4 seed probably went out the window with the home loss to St. John’s in their last.
Notre Dame could garner a #2 seed, or, possibly, a #1 with some luck. They have to make a good showing versus Villanova on Monday night.
March 1st
Vanderbilt at Kentucky – - The bet on sports odds makers will probably have Kentucky at least at -5 ½ in this contest on Tuesday night. That should point hoops handicappers towards the Commodores who, after losing 51 to 60 to Tennessee, bounced back with a nice 90 to 69 beat down of LSU in their last. Both teams could be looking at a #5 or possible #4 seed with victories.
March 2nd
Texas A&M at Kansas – - Kansas should be the new #1 in almost everybody’s Top 25 because Duke lost over the weekend while Rock Chalk has won 3 games in a row since losing to Kansas State on Feb. 14th. Texas A&M goes into this contest off of a 51 to 58 loss to Baylor. They don’t have to beat Kansas in order to impress anybody. They just need to prevent the blow out.
March 3rd
Oregon State at Arizona – - As soon as Bear Down got into the Top 10, they proceeded to lose. The loss to USC wasn’t as bad as the 57 to 65 score would indicate, but failing to even challenge UCLA in a 49 to 61 loss as 2 ½ point sports betting dogs was atrocious. No worries. The ‘Cats should bounce back by covering and beating an overmatched Oregon State squad on March 3rd.
March 5th
Villanova at Pittsburgh – - Pittsburgh has lost 2 out of their last 3 games. Although they figure to bounce back versus South Florida on March 2nd, most college basketball handicappers, and NCAA Selection Committee members, are going to check the Panthers out on March 5th to determine whether or not they deserve a #1 seed.
Duke at North Carolina – - The game between the biggest rivals in the ACC could mean a lot on March 5th. Duke needs to make amends for their loss to Virginia Tech this past weekend while North Carolina wants to continue moving up in order to secure a 4th seed or better in the NCAA Tournament.
North Carolina should be favored in the online sportsbook in this contest, but Duke loves to beat NC at Chapel Hill. This should be a dynamite game.
March 6th
Wisconsin at Ohio State – - The Buckeyes haven’t forgotten Feb. 12th when Wisconsin handed them their first loss of the season, 71 to 67. Ohio State will be looking to return the favor on Sunday, March 6th. Wisconsin only has 6 losses on the season. Another upset victory over Ohio State would pretty much guarantee them at least a #2 seed in the March Madness Tournament.

2011 March Madness Bracket – Ohio State Gets #1 in the West in Updated Predictions
February 28, 2011
The Ohio State Buckeyes are #1 in my updated March Madness bracket analysis for the West. Ohio State, although losing to Purdue on Feb. 20th, is still one of the Top 4 teams in the nation. They put serious beat downs on Illinois, 89 to 70, and Indiana, 82 to 61, in their last 2 games.
I’d love to make Jimmer Fredette and BYU #1 in the West, but they’ll need to hope that Duke, Kansas, Ohio State or Purdue loses one more time or in their respective conference tournaments before I can do that. BYU still gets an awesome seed in my predictions playing in their backyard for the Big Dance.

NBA Betting – Calling on London, New Jersey Nets vs. Toronto Raptors
February 28, 2011
The National Basketball Association (NBA) follows in the footsteps of the NFL and NHL as it makes history this week with the first-ever regular season games in Europe. The New Jersey Nets and Toronto Raptors are set to go head-to-head at the impressive state-of-the art O2 Arena in South-East London on March 4th and 5th as part of the NBA’s mandate to continuously develop basketball in the region. Of course, as a part of the regular season menu, these games are open on the NBA betting floors of BETUS Sportsbook.
Although several years behind the NFL and NHL, this move by the NBA is a mirror attempt to refocus strategy to build an international fan base by making the league more accessible on a global scale than ever before through the regular-season experience.
NBA Commissioner David Stern said, “By bringing these two young and exciting teams to London, we are fulfilling our commitment to schedule a regular-season game in the UK prior to the 2012 Olympics — a natural progression given the overwhelming response to the many friendly games we have played to sold-out crowds over the year.”
[Off topic: by the way, do you want to get a 55% bonus on your first deposit here at BetOnline? If so JOIN NOW.]
The NFL’s International series began in the 2005 season when the league hosted regular season American football games outside the USA. Prior to 2005, the main vehicle for international promotion was the American Bowl, a series of preseason NFL games played around the world.
However, the American Bowl initiative failed to deliver on the desired international objectives. It was obvious: if the NFL wanted to make a global statement, they had to deliver meaningful games in the broad spectrum of the season. Passionate international fans couldn’t be fobbed off with exhibition games and so enter the first NFL game at Wembley Stadium on October 28 2007, between the Miami Dolphins and New York Giants.
The NHL descended on Europe in 2007 as well, with regular season games and because of the success and popularity of hockey in Europe, the 2010~2011 NHL season, opening for the fourth straight year in Europe, set a new record with six teams competing in premium NHL games in Finland, Sweden and the Czech Republic.
So what is the NBA’s European future? It largely depends on the success of these back-to-back games between the Nets and Raptors, naturally. However, if experiences are any indication – not only the past successes of the NFL and NHL but also those of the NBA, achieving sell-out crowds when they’ve had occasion to visit the UK, the future does seem bright.
Online Sports Gambling Picks – Boston, Utah Move Forward Tonight After Trades
February 28, 2011
The Utah Jazz made instant waves when they suddenly shipped Deron Williams to New Jersey for a platter of youth and draft picks, making their value in online sports gambling a bit questionable. The Celtics also pulled the trigger on a shocker, sending beloved big man Kendrick Perkins to Oklahoma City for Jeff Green, while acquiring Nenad Krstic as well. Both moves were questioned by the public, and the immediate results haven’t been great for either team.
Boston has gone just 1-1 SU and 0-2 ATS in their last two games since shipping Kendrick Perkins away, and a lot of that has to do with team chemistry. The starters lamented the loss of Perkins, and Green seemed up to the challenge at times but not in the same way that Perk was. You have to imagine that the time for crying has to come to an end, especially since they’re just 3-2 SU and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games on the road.
[Off topic: by the way, do you want to get a 55% bonus on your first deposit here at BetOnline? If so JOIN NOW.]
Traditionally, the Celtics have struggled when playing Utah. They’re just 5-11 SU in their last 16 meetings with them overall and are 2-4 ATS in their last 6 visits to EnergySolutions Arena as well. That online sports gambling trend, however, is offset by how badly Utah has been playing at home this year.
Boston Celtics (42-15) vs. Utah Jazz (32-28)
Monday, February 28th — EnergySolutions Arena — 9:05pm EST
Online Sports Gambling Line – Boston Celtics -4.5 (190.5)
In my eyes, Utah got the better end of the deal more so because they landed Derrick Favors and a couple draft picks for Williams. Favors, however, hasn’t been playing much (or that well) for Utah averaging just 4.0 points and 5.5 rebounds in his two games in a Jazz uniform.
In time, the Utah Jazz will reap the benefits of shipping out a potentially malignant force like Williams but right now it’s impossible to side with them even when they’re at home. The Jazz are just 1-6 SU and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games and are coming off a brutal loss to Detroit. Boston tends to have a lot of value in online sports gambling when playing on the road, and while Perk is a big loss, the C’s ride on KG, Pierce and Allen. As long as they’re there, then I’ve got their back.
Furious Online Sports Gambling Picks – Boston -4.5 (OVER)
BONUS PICKS!
Atlanta Hawks +6.0 over DENVER NUGGETS
Believe it or not, Denver is the second best home team in the league with a track record of 24-7 SU at home. Of course, that’s a bit offset by the fact that they’re just 14-15-2 ATS in those games and that don’t have Carmelo Anthony any longer. I’m not throwing this Denver team under the bus because they do have some attractive pieces, but Atlanta is the second best road team in terms of wins and are also 18-15 ATS in online sports gambling away from home. They’re also playing very angry lately which is a reason those points seem downright attractive.
LA Clippers PK over SACRAMENTO KINGS
The Clippers will still be without Eric Gordon, but the Kings won’t have Tyreke Evans so this is really a toss-up. Overall, the Clippers are a more attractive option which is a lot to say given that they’re 1-7 SU and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games. They’re also 1-4-1 ATS when visiting the Kings. However, Sacramento has failed to find any semblance of rhythm this year, and are just 1-5 SU and ATS in their last 6 games. Simply put, my systems prefer the Clippers on the road without Gordon than the shallow Kings without Evans in online sports gambling.

NBA Odds – Phoenix, Denver, Clippers in Action
February 28, 2011
The Phoenix Suns, Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Clippers are all in action, and most likely will all be NBA betting favorites in the sportsbook, on Monday, February 28th.
The hot Phoenix Suns travel to Snooki’s town to take on the Nets while the Nuggets host the Atlanta Hawks.
Blake Griffin leads the Clippers into Sacramento to take on the Kings. Check out a preview of each game below.

Feb. 28th– NBA Games
** Stats and records not counting Sunday night games.
Phoenix Suns (30-27) at New Jersey Nets (17-42)
Where: Prudential Center, Newark, New Jersey
When: 7:00 pm EST
NBA Odds: Phoenix -1 ½
Analysis: The trends say that the Suns cover the spread in the online sportsbook tomorrow without any issues. Phoenix is 4 and 1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two. The Suns are also 4 and 1 ATS in their last 5 versus the NBA Atlantic. Phoenix is 6 and 2 ATS in their last 6 games on the road. The New Jersey Nets are 1 and 4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 2 and 9 ATS in their last 11 games following a road trip of 7 days or more. I just don’t see the Suns blowing the game on Monday. Hoops handicappers should consider jumping on Nash and Co. on Monday.
Atlanta Hawks (35-23) at Denver Nuggets (34-26)
Where: Pepsi Center, Denver, Colorado
When: 9:00 pm EST
NBA Betting Odds: Denver -6
Analysis: The Atlanta Hawks have been absolutely horrible against the odds in the pro basketball sportsbook lately. The Hawks are 1 and 4 ATS in their last 5 games as a road underdog.
They’re 1 and 7 ATS in their last 8 versus a Western Conference team and 2 and 5 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Nuggets are 7 and 3 ATS in their last 10 games as a home favorite. Denver is also 4 and 0 ATS in their last 4 games overall. And 15 and 5 ATS in their last 20 games versus a team with a winning road record. The Nuggets may not have any stars left on their squad but they sure play hard. I’m backing them.
Los Angeles Clippers (21-39) at Sacramento Kings (14-43)
Where: Arco Arena, Sacramento, California
When: 10:00 pm EST
NBA Odds: Over 207
Analysis: I’ve been looking for a reason in the trends to go with one of these squads on Monday, but I can’t find it. So, I’m not even worrying about the spread in this contest. Instead, I’m going over the NBA odds total of 207. To me, that’s the best bet in this game as the over is 8 and 2 in the Clippers last 10 games following an ATS victory. The over is 6 and 0 in the Kings’ last 6 games following an ATS loss. The over is also 10 and 1 in Sacramento’s last 11 games overall. I’m not going against those trends.

Bulls Figure to be Close to Double-Digit NBA Betting Favorite vs. Wizards
February 28, 2011
The Chicago Bulls figure to be a close to double-digit NBA betting odds favorite when they take on the Washington Wizards on Monday, February 28th.
The Bulls have been en fuego, overall at least, in the sportsbook lately. The Washington Potters have been much less than en fuego in the sportsbook lately. Can the Bulls win another one against the spread?
Chicago Bulls (40-17) at Washington Wizards (15-43)

Likely NBA Betting Lines
Chicago Bulls -9 ½ -110 O 195 -110
Washington Wizards +9 ½ -110 U 195 -110
Check out some trends for this game.
- The Chicago Bulls are 8-1-1 ATS in their last 10 Monday games.
- The Chicago Bulls are 6 and 1 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
- The Washington Wizards are 9 and 19 ATS in their last 28 games overall.
- The Washington Wizards are 2 and 5 ATS in their last 7 games at home.
The Chicago Bulls have become one of the top teams in the NBA. That makes them one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. The Bulls have covered 6 out of their last 7 games in the NBA sports betting book.
One of the covers included beating the Miami Heat straight up 93 to 89 as 3 point home dogs. It was a fantastic victory for the Bulls because they proved to themselves that they can beat a top team at home.
Now, Chi-Town takes on a Wizards squad that has been about as bad as any team in the NBA lately. Washington has lost 5 games in a row straight up. The good news for those hoops handicappers looking to back the Wizards on Monday is that they are 2 and 0 ATS in their last 2 games.
Washington covered a spread versus the Miami Heat, in a 113 to 121 loss, and then they covered a spread versus the Dallas Mavericks in a 99 to 105 loss.
Both of those covers were anomalies in my mind, however. It’s gong to be impossible for the Wizards to cover a third straight spread on Monday night because Washington just doesn’t do that. Chicago averages 98.3 points per game while giving up only 92.5 points per game.
The Bulls’ D is ranked 2nd in the league in points allowed per game and field goal percentage allowed per game. It’s also ranked 1st in 3-point percentage allowed per game and rebounds allowed per game.
The Wizards have no shot against the Bulls on February 28th. Washington could end up being a double-digit sports betting odds dog against Derrick Rose and Co. I don’t believe that it’s going to matter. The Bulls are so vastly superior to the Wizards that I feel that Chicago is a good team to back in this matchup all the way up to Chicago -13 ½.
There is very little that Washington can do in order to compete with Chicago on Monday night. Because of that, this should be an easy game to call for hoops handicappers. The Chicago Bulls are the team to back in the sportsbook against the spread.
I’m going with Chicago to cover versus Washington on February 28th.

Boston Easy Team to Back Against the NBA Odds Spread
February 28, 2011
The Boston Celtics are an easy team to back in the NBA online sportsbook on Monday, February 28th.
Boston plays the Utah Jazz on Monday and, based on how the early gambling has been going, the Celtics should rock the Jazz on Monday night. A full 78% of hoops handicappers support the Men in Green in their hopes of taking down the Celtics on Feb. 28th.

NBA Betting Lines
Boston Celtics -4 -110 O 191 -110
Utah Jazz +4 -110 U 191 -110
Check out some trends for this game.
- The Boston Celtics are 1 and 4 ATS in their last 5 games on the road.
- The Boston Celtics are 3 and 7 ATS in their last 10 games as a favorite.
- The Utah Jazz is 0 and 7 ATS in their last 7 games versus a team with a winning percentage above .600.
- The Utah Jazz is 0 and 5 ATS in their last 5 games at home.
The Boston Celtics don’t exactly have awesome pro basketball betting trends associated with them in this matchup on Monday night, but neither do the Utah Jazz. This game, like many for Utah the rest of this season, should come down to pretty much one position on the floor.
The Celtics are better than the Jazz in all positions on the floor, actually, but they’re much, much better than Utah in one key position. When Deron Williams ran the point for the Jazz, hoops handicappers could expect Utah, more often than not, to at least stay in the game.
Now, with Williams playing for the Nets in Joisy, there isn’t much that Utah can do in order to counter a team with an awesome point-guard. The Celtics have an awesome point-guard. Rajon Rondo averages 10.7 points per game, 4.5 boards and over 12 assists per game. He’s obviously one of the top point-guards in the NBA right now, but his real asset, and the reason that the Jazz is going to have a ton of trouble in the online betting basketball book against the Celtics on Monday night, is that Rondo can do whatever is needed of him.
If the Celtics need someone to hit the boards, Rondo can do it. If they need someone to pick up the scoring slack because one of the Big 3 is off, then Rondo can put the ball into the hoop. Rajon Rondo can do whatever is needed of him. He’s that good.
How can Utah matchup against a player like that? They can’t. The Jazz are going to start Devin Harris at point on Monday night. Although Harris is a good player, he put up 16 points and dished 12 assists versus the Detroit Pistons in Utah’s 116 to 120 loss in the Jazz’s last game, Harris isn’t going to be able to stick with Rondo.
Rondo can control a game in more ways than one as a point-guard and that’s the reason that the Boston Celtics are such a great team to back against the NBA odds spread on Monday night.
With Rajon dishing the rock to the rest of the Big 4 and the Jazz having nobody capable of countering Rondo, there’s nothing else to write. The Boston Celtics should easily cover the spread against a tough, but overmatched, Utah Jazz team on February 28th.
I’m going to back Boston against the spread versus the Jazz in this contest.

NBA Eastern Conference – Stick with 76’ers in Order to Cash Basketball Odds on East
February 28, 2011
Basketball betting handicappers should stick with the Philadelphia 76’ers in order to cash in on Eastern Conference games.
There isn’t another team in the Eastern Conference that has helped hoops handicappers’ bottom line than the Revolutionaries. They continue to be undervalued by both odds makers and bettors even though they cover spreads both at home and on the road.
Let’s get to the NBA Eastern Conference Top 5 and Bottom 5!
[Off topic: by the way, do you want to get a 55% bonus on your first deposit here at BetOnline? Find out more exciting details HERE.]
NBA Eastern Conference Top 5
** Stats not counting Sunday games.
- Philadelphia 76’ers 29-29 (37-20-1 ATS) – - Philly faces the tough Dallas Mavericks on Monday night. The key will be how big of a dog the 76’ers are versus the Mavs in the online NBA sports betting book. The Revolutionaries are being undervalued right now but they could just as easily be overvalued if too much money ends up on them in games.
- Chicago Bulls 40-17 (34-21-2 ATS) – - Save for a 113 to 118 stumble versus the Toronto Raptors last week, the Bulls have been exceptional. They upset the Miami Heat straight up as home dogs and then they beat a tough Milwaukee team on the road by 8 points, 83 to 75, as 3 ½ point favorites. This team is solid.
- New York Knicks 29-27 (33-21-2 ATS) – - Word is still out as to how ‘Melo playing alongside Amare is going to help this team pad the pockets of hoops basketball odds betting handicappers. My feeling is that it should work out because Chauncey is such a great floor general, but you never know, right? This week should give us more clues.
- Detroit Pistons 22-39 (33-28 ATS) – - What’s the deal with Rip Hamilton? Jeez! Gamblers can continue to back Detroit if they want, the Pistons did beat Utah 120 to 116 as +5 point road dogs this past Saturday night, but tread carefully. This team’s got some serious dysfunctional stuff going on.
- Charlotte Bobcats 26-32 (30-26-2 ATS) – - 4 and 1 ATS in their last 5 including covering versus Sacramento and Toronto is pretty good, but, let’s be honest, they’re still living off of the straight up victory versus the Lakers on Feb. 14th, aren’t they?
NBA Eastern Conference Bottom 5
- Washington Wizards 15-43 (22-36 ATS) – - The good news is that they’ve covered the spread in their last 2 games. The bad news is that they’ve covered as a 15 ½ point dog versus Miami and as a 10 point dog versus Dallas. Strange, but understandable. There’s no way the Wizards cover single digit spreads this week. No way.
- Cleveland Cavaliers 11-47 (23-33-2 ATS) – - 4 and 1 against the online pro basketball odds in their last 5 means that they’re at least a team that has to be taken seriously ATS, but it’s not going to last. Eventually, the money is going to swing the other way. So, don’t blindly bet on the Cavaliers just because they’re hot against the spread right now.
- Toronto Raptors 16-43 (25-32-2 ATS) – - 3 and 2 ATS in their last 5 is actually really good. In the long run, however, does anybody really believe that this team is going to make money for sports gamblers? I didn’t think so.
- Atlanta Hawks 35-23 (26-32 ATS) – - The Hawks really believe that Kirk Hinrich is going to help them in the point-guard position more than Mike Bibby? That’s crazy. Hey, they had to do something. They’re 2 and 5 ATS in their last 7 games.
- New Jersey Nets 17-42 (27-32 ATS) – - 1 and 4 ATS in their last 5 makes them a team to stay away from in the sports book. The Nets can come up and bite you once in a while, but overall they’re a team to stay away from unless you like giving money away.
