Aussie Open Betting – Serena, Venus and Wozniacki
January 20, 2010
Melbourne , Australia –The bottom half of the draw saw mixed results for the seeds in second round action. Clearly, no seed is completely safe. As the top half of the draw enters the second round, the tipping question is whether the seeds in this group will fare better. Here is a look at some of these faves that are set to bid for a spot in the third round today
Tennis Betting Line: Sybille Bammer +700 Venus Williams -1600
Match Time: 09:00 PM Eastern Time Wednesday January 20, 2010
Tennis Betting Verdict: Last year Venus was dumped in the second round of the Aussie Open by an unheralded Carla Suarez Navarro. She will be looking to avoid that fate against Sybille Bammer of Austria.
Venus has not been successful in Melbourne for a long time. Moreover, the Austrian veteran is no gimp. She beat sister Serena Williams twice in her career in 2007 and 2009. In fact, she has a perfect 2-0 mark against Serena – not something many players can boast. For this reason, I believe she will be more into the match than her underdog odds suggest and she is definitely worth the wager.
Tennis Free Picks: Bammer in three sets
Tennis Betting Line: Caroline Wozniacki -2000 Julia Goerges +800
Match Time: 09:00 PM Eastern Time Wednesday January 20, 2010
Tennis Betting Verdict: Caroline Wozniacki is a solid -200 favourite against Julia Goerges. The world No.4 was the 2009 US Open runner-up and many expect she will make another deep run in Melbourne. Goerges doesn’t stack up as a player who has any weapons that could hurt Wozniacki. This match is Wozniacki’s for the taking.
Tennis Free Picks: Wozniacki in straight sets
Tennis Betting Line: Serena Williams -2500 Petra Kvitova +900
Match Time: 11:00 PM Eastern Time Wednesday January 20, 2010
Tennis Betting Verdict: Petra Kvitova is a good enough player to make this match a good one and give Serena the kind of warm up she will need to go with confidence into the next round. But go to the next round Serena should. Kvitova had some good results in the past. Her biggest claim to fame is beating former world No.1 Dinara Safina at the US Open last year. Beating Safina, a player whose mental fragility is well documented, and taking out one of the mentally toughest women in the game, Serena is another thing entirely. Kvitova might give a good account of herself and keep the match close but it should still be a straight set affair for the defending champion Serena.
Tennis Free Picks: Serena in straight sets
