Everyone involved with the NFL will tell you that wins or losses in the preseason don’t matter, but don’t kid yourself; the Baltimore Ravens will be looking to sweep the games that don’t matter. They have added some great talent at the wide receiver position by adding Anquan Boldin.
Boldin put up great numbers along side of Larry Fitzgerald in Arizona but in Baltimore, he’ll be the number one target for Ravens QB Joe Flacco. Of course, we won’t see Boldin or Flacco in this game especially after the Ravens second WR addition Donte Stallworth could miss two months after injuring his foot.
The Ravens are a top football pick this season because they have added a lot of depth to back up the very talented starters. Under center for at least part of the game will be former Rams number one QB Marc Bulger, Bulger spent his entire 8-year career in St. Louis before being cut loose after the Rams drafted Sam Bradford with the number one pick in the draft.
Sam Bradford is slated to start the season as the Rams back up but another game like his last, it will be hard to keep him on the bench. Bradford was 15 for 22 for 189 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions against the New England Patriots.
As good as Bradford might be, he’ll have trouble finding receivers to get the ball to after number one receiver Donnie Avery suffered a season ending knee injury. That leaves the Rams looking for another receiver to pair with now number one Laurent Robinson. Nevertheless, if Bradford is as good as advertised, he can make the Rams back up WRs Danny Amendola, Keenan Burton and rookie Mardy Gilyard better.
In Thursday’s game, the starters won’t see much action and that leaves the Rams second and third stringers to try to stop the Ravens second and third stringers. The Rams have been so poorly run over the past few seasons that the Ravens backups could likely beat the Rams starters so against the backup it should be a cakewalk. Feel confident putting the Baltimore Ravens in your football betting picks this week.
