BCS Rankings – Florida and ‘Bama Remain the Top Dogs
November 1, 2009
1. Florida Gators (8-0 SU, 3-3-1 ATS)
No surprise here. With the way the rest of the nation is playing overall, Florida’s going to need to lose a game to lose the top spot.
Next Game: Vanderbilt vs. Florida (-32.5)
2. Texas Longhorns (8-0 SU, 3-4-1 ATS)
The pollsters are basically telling us what we already know – the Longhorns will finally realize their BCS championship bid if they stay undefeated, and they’ll play whomever wins the SEC Championship. They’re final four games are against UCS, Baylor, Kansas and Texas A&M. Don’t take any of those teams lightly…especially if you have a fat girlfriend.
By the way – Mike Leach is AWESOME (if you have no idea what I’m talking about then go watch Leach’s post-game interview from this weekend).
Next Game: Central Florida vs. Texas
3. Alabama Crimson Tide (8-0 SU, 5-3 ATS)
Man, if Alabama screws up a home game against LSU this weekend, then I am never getting on Nick Saban’s bandwagon ever again.
Next Game: LSU vs. Alabama (-9)
4. Iowa Hawkeyes (9-0 SU 6-2 ATS)
Congratulations, Iowa. You’re the top-5 team that nobody cares about. It’s like everyone is so stunned that Iowa could even come close enough to sniffing Tim Tebow’s ass that they don’t feel the need to justify the ranking. They’ll just plop them in the four spot and then say absolutely nothing. And the sad thing is that Iowa can’t do anything about it unless they beat Ohio State on the road in two weeks.
Next Game: Northwestern vs. Iowa (-17.5)
5. Cincinnati Bearcats (8-0 SU, 5-2 ATS)
Cincinnati gets to hold on to the fifth spot until TCU plays and wins again. Of the BCS buster teams out there, the Horned Frogs are the best bet. Neither Cincinnati or Boise State have the strength of schedule of TCU. So if all three teams remain undefeated, which is the likely case, then TCU will slide in to fifth and nobody will care about Cincinnati or Boise State (except their fans). This is what happens when you rely on the schedule makers to put you in big games. Everyone needs to learn from the lobbying of the Utah Utes this past summer.
Next Game: Connecticut vs. Cincinnati
Biggest Riser – #22 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (6-2 SU, 2-6 ATS)
The at-large bid is the kicker here. Notre Dame needs a top-14 finish to become eligible and with Heisman leader Jimmy Clausen hurling fireballs through he skies. Notre Dame has a legitimate chance to crack the top-14. The BCS needs big names in the top ranks after such a disappointing season from the big name schools. I blame Oklahoma for the free-for-all that is the BCS standings.
Next Game: Navy vs. Notre Dame
Biggest Loser – #12 USC Trojans (6-2 SU, 2-6 ATS)
I don’t have enough space in this column to blast the Trojans and no matter what I say it won’t prevent the Trojans for lobbying for a BCS bowl bid. The pollsters are vomiting with terror that USC won’t be in the Rose Bowl this year and a 47-20 loss to Oregon didn’t help matters at all. How the Trojans are still ranked in the top-15 after devastating in-conference losses to Washington ad Oregon is beyond me. I’d love to see what the BCS does if they lose to Arizona State. Crap like this totally destroys the credibility of the BCS. Give me an early Christmas present, football gods! Go Sun Devils!!! Don’t worry, I’m not going to lead you astray with a free-picks review of that game.
Next Game: USC (-11.5) vs. Arizona State
