Bet on UFC 113 – Stout vs Stephens

May 8, 2010

UFC 113 takes place from the Bell Center in Montreal so you know that Sam ‘Hands of Stone’ Stout, hailing from Ontario, is going to be the fan’s pick when he takes on Jeremy ‘Lil Heathen’ Stevens on Saturday night. Stout is relatively new to the UFC, but got their attention after ripping off eight straight wins in the TKO organization before the UFC brought him on board. He has since gone up against Spencer Fisher twice, with both fights getting fight of the night honors, winning one and losing one.

UFC 113: Sam Stout vs. Jeremy Stephens

Saturday, May 8th – Live on PPV (7:30 pm ET)

Stout then suffered back-to-back losses to Rich Clementi at UFC 83 and Terry Etim at UFC 89, both by decision. And just when it looked as though Stout’s career was in jeopardy, he came out and won two unanimous decisions over Matt Wiman and Joe Lauzon at UFC 97 and 108 respectively. Not only did he win, he earned fight of the night honors on both occasions, his third and fourth of his career. That kind of track record will keep the boss happy, and Dana White is the kind of guy you want to keep happy.

His opponent, Jeremy ‘Lil Heathen’ Stevens, seems like he’s been around forever but he is still only 23. With 21 fights in his MMA career, he needs to make a move pretty quickly if he doesn’t want to get lost in the Lightweight pack. He is a brawler who doesn’t have much of a ground game and his wrestling leaves much to be desired, but he does have some serious hands. Combine that with a great chin, and it’s easy to see why he is a popular fighter as he is not shy to stand in there and brawl with anyone.

UFC 113 Betting Line:

Sam Stout (-200) vs. Jeremy Stephens (+160)

This is going to be a matchup between two guys that have powerful hands and good technique on the feet. Neither fighter has been finished via strikes, and both come in looking to make a statement in the Lightweight division. This has brawl written all over it.

Both men have iron chins and great punching power, so this one is going to come down to who can win the majority of the exchanges. With the home crowd to please, Stout will have a lot to prove, while Stephens just has to come out and do his thing.

When it’s all said and done, I think Stephens (+160) is going to just do a little bit more to earn the victory in this one.
