British Open 2010 Tournament Matchups

July 14, 2010

Tournament Matchups for golf betting are a little bit more delicate at the PGA Major level. Experience is very important. It’s not just about who the better player is or who is peaking at that time, though those factors come into play when handicapping golf betting. People who have been there before tend to be there again, a golf bet on these matches should treat you Majorly well.

Vijay Singh -105 over Victor Dubuisson

I get it. This French hotshot wins the 2009 European Amateur Championship and gets ranked #1 in some World Amateur ranking. I get it. And now he’s favored to beat Vijay Singh in the British Open this year. GTFOOH! This is a Professional tournament. Actually, this is a PGA MAJOR tournament. GET IT!! Good luck Rookie. Vijay isn’t playing his vintage game, but he’s back on the rise at the right time. The golf betting Gods think this is like taking candy from a French rookie.

Tiger Woods -175 over Phil Mickelson +145

I don’t know that I even need to explain this except to emotional bettors that love Phil. The simple fact is that Tiger has won the last 2 (of his 3) British Opens played at St. Andrews by a combined 16 strokes. He coasted to both those victories, or it would have been much more. I know that +145 money looks tempting with Mickelson playing so well, but don’t make a golf wager on it.
Retief Goosen -120 over Tim Clark

The key difference here is the 20 yards or so driver distance that Goosen will have over Clark. This course is one that doesn’t matter so much about driving accuracy, which Tim Clark is ranked 3rd on the PGA Tour, as it does distance. Add the fact that Retief tied for 5th place at The Old Course in 2005, and you’ve got a winning golf bet.

Justin Rose -120 over Rory McIlroy -110

I understand the hype for this kid, believe me, but Justin Rose is a different man than he was years ago. He is finally living up to the hype surrounding him when he was little Rory’s age. I hate to harp on the weather, but that’s the kind of thing inexperience does not deal with as well. Justin has had his share of learning lessons, and I think Mr. McIlroy may get one tomorrow. If you want to make a good bet on golf, take Rose over Rory.
