The Virginia Tech Hokies will try to avoid their first three-game losing streak in six years as they visit the 13 point home underdog East Carolina Pirates this Thursday at 7:30 PM ET at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.

College Football Betting Odds:

Virginia Tech Hokies -13
East Carolina Pirates +13

The Hokies were playing good football on both sides of the ball until they got smacked down a couple of weeks ago by Georgia Tech, then a week after were upset by North Carolina 20-17 on a Thursday night game.

“I think the motivation is to come out here so you don’t feel like this again," said Hokies linebacker Cody Grimm. “Ten wins is one thing, but I don’t want to feel like this anymore and the only way to do that is to win."

East Carolina Pirates on the other hand is looking to continue with their winning streak after defeating Rice and Memphis in consecutive weeks.

“You get into some of these big-game atmospheres and it’s good to see our players understand the type of effort it’s going to take," said East Carolina coach Skip Holtz.

In other to avoid another upset VT must find a way to establish their running game (ranked 26 th in rushing yards). RB Ryan Williams is being more off than on this last month, scoring just 2 times in the last four games; the good thing is that he has being able to put some good yards, averaging 122 yards in the last 7 games.

"There’s no reason to dwell on it. I can’t take it back," Williams said. "I can’t change what happened. Thursday, I’ll be the same old guy and I’ll be ready to play."

Williams and the Virginia Tech Hokies front line are up to face the second best rush defense in the conference USA allowing just 3.4 per carry and just 9 TD on the ground in the season. I like VT in this particularly matchup.

The Pirates have their faith on the defense side as they take away the ball 4 times last week from Memphis in the win 38-19.

If East Carolina can control the Hokies on offense, QB Patrick Pinkney will just have to worry about managing the game and not turning the ball over. He has at least one turnover in the last 5 games, so expect him to continue with that streak as they face the second best passing defense in the ACC.

Keep in mind Virginia Tech leads the series 9-5; and they won’t lack of motivation as they try to avoid a defeat just like the one from last season’s 27-22 upset.

College football betting tip: if you’re betting on the game total remember it has gone UNDER in 4 of Virginia Tech’s last 6 games.

My pick: Virginia won’t cover the spread. Under.
