Halladay on the Move to Philadelphia
December 27, 2009
Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated was the first to report that the Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to trade Roy Halladay to the Philadelphia Phillies as part of a three-way deal that will likely send left-hander Cliff Lee to the Seattle Mariners.
Reports say that Halladay is in Philadelphia and is talking to the club about a contract extension. The 32-year old ace pitcher is expected to agree to the extension and finalize the deal in the next few days, but that the terms are not clear at this point. Halladay will have to waive his no-trade clause to complete the trade which is likely to happen since he will be moving to a World Series contender.
Halladay has also said that he would not waive his no-trade clause after spring training starts.
Sources report that Halladay is likely to take a physical with the Phillies this week.
While there is still no confirmation as to what the Blue Jays will get back, Fox Sports’ Jon Morosi is reporting that Canadian pitcher Phillippe Aumont will go to the Jays from the Mariners, while Michael Taylor from the Phillies will also be part of the package heading to Toronto.
Halladay’s current deal expires at the end of the 2010 season, at which point he could become a free agent.
