Horse Racing Betting Pick 3 of the Day: Starts in Race 8 at Santa Anita Park
February 15, 2010
It’s President’s Day here in the good ole U.S. and the great racing is on tap all across the country! This includes racing at Santa Anita where a full 10 race card is scheduled.
Horseplayers should take advantage as the BetOnline online racebook will be offering track like betting on every single one of Santa Anita’s races. I’ll be playing a Pick 3 ticket that involves two graded races on Santa Anita’s card.
I’m going to go ahead and roll the dice and play a $6 Pick 3 ticket today as I expect two of the legs to be won by favorites or short-priced horses.
1st Leg: 7:07 pm EST
Pick 3 – Santa Anita Park
Race 8
Grade II San Vicente For Three Year Olds
7 furlongs on Pro-Ride
Horses Used: 1-Quiet Invader, 3-Sidney’s Candy, 5-Tiny Woods, 6-Raging Wit
Analysis: Quiet Invader is a Bob Baffert trained horse that could get the lead and keep going. Oddly enough, Quiet Invader’s only real challenger to the lead is the other Baffert horse in this, Tiny Woods. Both have the ability to go gate to wire. If Quiet Invader and Tiny Woods pressure each other too much up front, then Sidney’s Candy and Raging Wit will be battling for honors in the San Vicente. Sidney’s Candy is the 2 to 1 morning line chalk while Raging Wit is trying his hand at the Pro-Ride surface for the 1st time. Wit is trained by Bill Mott and ridden by Kent Desormeaux. Those are pretty good connections behind the 6 to 1 shot.
Race 9
Grade II Buena Vista Handicap For Fillies and Mares Four Years Old
1 mile on turf
Horses Used: 1-Cat By The Tale, 5-Tuscan Evening
Analysis: Cat By The Tale was last seen winning the Grade II San Gorgonio Handicap. She gets the rail in this where jockey Joel Rosario can keep an eye on her main rival, Tuscan Evening. Cat By The Tale could be turning into a late blooming Neil Drysdale monsters that just gets better and better every time Drysdale saddles it. Tuscan Evening has won 4 out of 6 over the Santa Anita turf course. In the Grade I Matriarch she lost by 1 ¾ lengths to the fantastic Ventura two races ago. In her last race, she won the Grade III Morovia Handicap going down the hill. She’ll be a short-priced favorite in this.
Race 10
$25,000 Maiden Claiming For Four Year Olds and Up
6 ½ furlongs on Pro-Ride
Horses Used: 4-DC Tapit
Analysis: DC Tapit tried his hand at the maiden special weight level and then dropped all the way to a $50,000 claimer. Now, he shows up in a $25,000 claimer for terrific trainer Mike Mitchell. DC Tapit’s odds are going to be very low in this race, but he’s still the horse to use in the Pick 3 because nobody is as close to being as fast as he is. Expect jockey Martin Garcia to put DC Tapit about a length or 2 behind Nathaniel. Then, at the top of the stretch, DC Tapit should take charge.
Combinations: 4 x 2 x 1 = 8
$6 Pick 3 = $48
