Jankovic and Oudin on Collision Course at Stanford
August 3, 2009
Stanford, USA – It has been some time (scandalously so) since I have turned to women’s tennis and put together some free picks for the tennis betting hamlet at BetOnline. Fo shame!!
So in an effort to rectify that oversight we will go to the Bank of West Classic tournament that is hitting the tennis courts at Stanford, California, namely for Jankovic and Oudin’s second round matches. But in a moment though.
Before we get to the business of picking matches, the reason why I am suddenly intrigued by women’s tennis is that on looking at the Stanford draw, I noticed that Jelena Jankovic (JJ) and Melanie Oudin (the American sweetheart that she is) are on a collision course in Standford. For those of you who are avid tennis bettors you will remember that Oudin accounted for the upset over Jankovic at Wimby last month. You might also remember some of the tasty comments Jankovic had to say about her loss to the giggly (charmingly so) 16-year-old Oudin.
No?
Well, let us air out a few of those from her post match presser (courtesy of the interview closet at Wimbledon.org), "…she can play if you let her play. But she cannot hurt you with anything. She doesn’t have any weapons, you know, from what I’ve seen,” said Jankovic, who was clearly not in a happy place at the time.
And this one, “She’s a consistent and quite solid player. She doesn’t make so many mistakes. But she doesn’t do anything either, so it’s like she’s depending kind of on you.” [Tsk, tsk]. Oh JJ, why can’t we all be nice to each other. And hold hands?
Won’t bore you with anymore catty comments or sully them by analysing them – you simply experience them by letting them wash over you and flow through your senses in the way you might luxuriate in poisonous gas, happily taking it in. You get the point. See how their potential clash in the quarterfinals might be dramatic times a thousand, especially as they will be meeting on Oudin’s turf, in front of a partisan crowd fully behind her and her alone.
Well not to get ahead of ourselves, JJ and Oudin have to win their second round matches first. Hopefully they do because their rematch is something I along with many in the tennis betting world would love to see, especially, if JJ gets large factory-farmed egg on her face for a second time in a row (can’t we all be nice to each other and hold hands.. yeah, yeah I know, if only).
