Marty is MAD – #6 Carolina Hurricanes vs. #3 New Jersey Devils

April 24, 2009

Can Brodeur Put That Rage To Good Use?

When Martin Brodeur lost his mind after the Hurricanes scored with 0.02 seconds left on the clock in Game 4, the Jersey NHL betting backers probably thought one thing collectively. And that was simply “It’s about damn time!’

Brodeur has been the best goal tender to play in my lifetime, and part of the reason that I’ve always been a fan of him is because I recognized that I had the pleasure of watching a living legend etch his legacy right before my eyes, while being a consummate professional. Well when Brodeur lost his cool and threw his stick at the boards at the conclusion of Game 4, I realized that this is exactly what the Devils needed.

#6 Carolina Hurricanes vs. #3 New Jersey Devils

Thursday, April 23rd — Prudential Center, Jersey — 7:30pm EST

NHL Betting Record: Tied 2-2

The Devils lack somebody that keys them on the ice. They used to have the big, bruising Scott Stevens who used to decapitate opposing players (Eric Lindros and Paul Kariya anybody?) while setting the defensive tone of the game. Who does that for the Devils now? John Madden? Zach Parise?

Brodeur losing his cool is going to be the motivating force for the Devils. And they need it. Carolina is gaining momentum left, right and center, and the Devils need a big win at home before they head back to Carolina for Game 6. This is going to be a tough game for the Devils to win with Carolina clicking on all cylinders, but Brodeur refocusing after his record-setting win earlier this season sort of displaced his attentions. Now that he’s focused again, I fully expect the Devils to shut-out the Hurricanes while compounding a 14-3 SU record at home.

Furious NHL Free Pick: New Jersey -150 (UNDER)
