MLB Betting Free Picks – San Francisco Giants vs. San Diego Padres

April 20, 2010

The oddsmakers sure haven’t forgotten about the last time Jonathan Sanchez pitched against the Padres. After hurling a no-hitter against them last season, the oddsmakers have rolled out the lowest baseball betting TOTAL I’ve seen all season. Sanchez likely won’t be untouchable again, but he’s certainly getting back to that zone after a rough start to the season.

Against the Pittsburgh Pirates, Sanchez threw a three-hit game in the 6-0 shutout victory for his Giants. This season he is 1-0 SU with a 2.19 ERA. In his last five games against the Padres, the Giants have gone 3-2 SU and Sanchez has earned two wins and two losses during that stretch.

The Giants are coming off two straight losses, with one in the opening game of this series against the Giants and the other in the closing effort against the Dodgers. Despite those losses, the Giants have a solid offensive output with 5.5 runs per game, and tout the league’s second best defense with 3.4 runs allowed overall.

San Francisco Giants (8-5) vs. San Diego Padres (7-6)
Tuesday, April 20th — Petco Park — 10:05pm EST
MLB Betting Line:

Jonathan Sanchez – L -1.5 +130 -120 O 7.0 -105
Matt Latos – R +1.5 -150 EV U 7.0 -115

While the Giants will have all sorts of confidence in Sanchez, the Padres can’t feel that much confidence in their starter. The 22-year old will make only his 12th career start and hope to secure a five-game winning streak for the Padres. Latos has never pitched against the sturdy Giants, and is just 0-1 SU with a 5.91 ERA this season. Still, the Padres have a reliable bullpen to lean on should things go sideways (literally) with Latos.

Where To Watch: CSBA, CH 4

As good as the Padres have been recently, I can’t bet against Sanchez. He may be undersized for a pitcher, but at 27-years old he’s making a serious case to be noticed. I’ll take the Giants across the board in this one, especially with Sanchez MLB betting success against the Padres in the past.
