MLB Odds – Angels Battle Detroit as the Favorites in the MLB Sportsbook
April 20, 2010
The Los Angeles Angels will be the baseball bet favorite when the first-pitch is thrown on Tuesday night. The Angels are in line to win their 5th straight game but will have to beat the Detroit Tigers to do so.
Game-night: 4/20/2010
Tip-off: 10:05 pm EST
L.A. sends Scott Kazmir to the mound. Kazmir had absolutely no control over his slider in his first game of the season, yielding 8 hits and 6 runs in only 4 innings of work for a 13.50 ERA. Kazmir threw 87 pitches in those 4 innings.
The Tigers counter Kazmir with pitcher Rick Porcello. Porcello didn’t exactly have the best outing of his life the last time he pitched either. Porcello threw 96 pitches in 6 innings, 27 of them coming in the 1st inning alone, in a no-decision to the Kansas City Royals. In 6 innings of work, Porcello yielded 10 hits and 3 runs for a 4.09 ERA. Porcello’s WHIP on the season is 1.55.
The baseball betting odds makers have decided that Kazmir will find his slider according to the wagering line bellow.
Detroit Tigers
Rick Porcello – R +1 ½ -170 +115 O 9 Ev
Los Angeles Angels
Scott Kazmir – L -1 ½ +150 -135 U 9 -120
The trends give both teams some hope to win tonight’s game.
- The Detroit Tigers are 4 and 0 in Rick Porcello’s last 4 starts after allowing 2 runs or less in their previous game.
- The Detroit Tigers are 6 and 1 in Rick Porcello’s last 7 starts during game 2 of a series.
- The Los Angeles Angels are 4 and 1 in Scott Kazmir’s last 5 starts as the favorite.
- The Los Angeles Angels are 4 and 0 in their last 4 games on grass.
Kazmir’s history against the Tigers, 2 and 4 with a 4.69 ERA in 8 starts, won’t give sports bettors any confidence betting on the Angels, but Porcello had some issues on the road in 2009 and may have brought those issues to 2010.
In 2009, Porcello was 1 and 4 with a 4.96 ERA in 9 away starts. This is his first away start of the season but if his pitching at home in Detroit is any indication, his away record could be even worse in 2010.
It’s a tough first road start for Porcello who faces a team that is riding high after shutting out the Tigers on Monday night. Even though the Tigers racked up 9 hits against the Angels, as opposed to the Angels 4 hits, Detroit couldn’t muster a single run in a 2 to 0 loss.
If Kazmir finds his slider, and that’s a big possibility since he has been working on getting it back since his last start, then the Angels should be able to notch their 5th victory in a row.
Porcello isn’t a bad pitcher but he has yet to prove that the can throw his best stuff on the road and the Angels are feeling good about themselves. I see Kazmir doing a much better job on the mound tonight then he did in his previous start.
The Angels should be able to take advantage of Porcello’s road woes and Kazmir should be much better. I see L.A. winning this game.
