MMA Odds – Boxing or MMA? Couture and Toney Answer That Question
August 28, 2010
The debate finally comes to a conclusion on Saturday night in Boston and MMA betting odds are heavily on the side of Mixed Martial Arts.
MMA Legend Randy Couture tries to put the question of who’s tougher to bed against boxing legend, James Toney.
I wish I could say that it should be interesting but it likely won’t be (unless you find watching an over the hill overweight wannabe getting beaten to a pulp interesting!)

Event: UFC 118: Couture vs. Toney
August 28, 2010
10PM ET/7PM PT
TD Garden, Boston, Massachusetts
Broadcast: Pay-per-view & Select Movie Theaters
James Toney (0-0): +450
Randy Couture (18-10): -700
Unfortunately for Dana White, James Toney has not entered into his fight with legend Randy Couture with any class at all but MMA odds are that he will leave the ring humbled to say the least. Toney’s mouth has possibly his best weapon in this fight. All the talk thankfully comes to an end on Saturday night when he makes his MMA debut.
There is absolutely no doubt that Toney is a dangerous striker. UFC lines are that the term “one dimensional fighter” takes on a whole different meaning when Toney enters the Octagon at UFC 118.
Although Toney has said that he submitted Muhammad Lawal, he has no grappling training, no wrestling training, no Muay Thai, no takedowns, and no take down defense training. If he hits Couture however, there is a good chance that Randy will fall.
Randy Couture will likely never fight for the title again in his career but there is no denying that he is still at the top of his game. He has been wrestling for 35 years; he was a boxer in the military and has dedicated the last 15 years of life dedicating himself to be one of the most well rounded fighters ever.
Couture is still a Top Tier wrestler, he can submit, he’s got a world class clinch and can stand and strike with anybody in the world.
This should be an easy fight for Couture. He will likely look to take the fight down early and end it as quickly as humanly possible. There is really no need to beat a beaten man.
MMA Odds Outlook:
The very least that James Toney could have done was bring in a grappling coach and word has it, he didn’t even do that. Toney will be outclassed in almost every aspect in this fight. The only thing that can get in the way of an overwhelming Couture victory is the distraction of his recent box office success!
The boxing ring is a lot different than an Octagon so don’t even think about betting on Toney!
MMA Odds Pick: Randy Couture -700
