The Miami Heat had courted Derek Fisher in recent weeks, to join their star-studded lineup that includes Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, and LeBron James. Fisher, however, elected to stay in Los Angeles where he has played 11 NBA seasons with his friend and future Hall-of-Famer Kobe Bryant.
In the Lakers NBA betting title run this past year, Fisher showed that he still had the poise to take the last shot at the end of games, a killer instinct which has made signing Derek Fisher a priority for a lot of NBA teams this offseason.
Although Fisher may be giving up on more lucrative contracts, he understands the importance of loyalty and staying with a team that knows how to win and he respects him as a veteran NBA player.
Fisher seems to have learned from his previous free agency decision when he decided to move from the Lakers back in 2007 in favor of a better contract offer.
After enduring two long, terrible seasons with the Golden State Warriors, and then relocating to the Utah Jazz for a season, the veteran guard knew he had made a mistake leaving the Lakers franchise in the first place.
When Fisher returned to the Lakers for the 2007-08 season, the Lakers reached their first of three NBA Finals betting appearances with Fisher in the lineup. Aware of his importance to the team, Fisher has realized the best moments of his career have been and always will be in a Lakers uniform.
