NBA Sports Betting – Who’s Hot UNDER

February 24, 2009

The NBA online betting season is fresh out of the All Star break, and the following teams have been solid investments for NBA ‘Under’ bettors at BetOnline Sportsbook to start the second half of the season:

(RANK) (TEAM) (SU RECORD) (O/U RECORD) (O/U RECORD L/5 +$$)

1) Boston Celtics (43-11) (26-31 O/U) (1-4 O/U L/15 +$290): The defending champs suffered a big blow when Kevin Garnett pulled up lame against the Utah Jazz last week, but that hasn’t stopped one of the league’s best defensive teams from continuing to cash ‘under’ bettors tickets through the All Star break.

Boston’s been playing Celtic ball of late by getting more than enough from its offense, while its defense has simply shut its opponents down. Limiting Phoenix to 108 points after it hit the 140-point plateau in its three previous contests was quite a feat, but that effort was toppled in their next outing against Denver. They smashed Carmelo and the Nuggets 114-76 limiting Denver to a less than 35% from the field on 25-of-72 shooting; the 76 points scored was Denver’s second lowest scoring output of the season. Boston excelled without KG in the line-up last season, so it comes as no surprise that it’s rolling right along without him right now. With the offense currently set in high gear, expect a couple more high scoring results to occur in the coming week with Boston’s next two games set to go against the LA Clippers (#24 defensively at 104+ PPG) and Indiana Pacers who have proven to be allergic to playing defense all season long.

2) Portland Trailblazers (35-20) (24-29 O/U) (1-3-1 O/U L/5 +$190): The Blazers built upon their two-game ‘under’ streak right out of the break by playing to it against the Memphis Grizzlies. Each of their L/3 opponents have been held to 98 points or less, and they most recently limited the LA Clippers (100+ previous three games) to just 87 points. With a middle of the pack offense and a defense ranked amongst the top 10 (#9 @ 95.1 PPG) in defensive points allowed, It makes perfect sense to see the ‘under’ five games up on the ‘over’ in their to date statistics. Now they have to hit the road for three straight where ‘under’ bettors have gone 13-14 O/U on the year. The ‘under’ is 7-3 ATS the L/10 times they’ve squared off against Tuesday nights opponent, Houston. Portland’s also failed to reach the 100-point plateau in its L/4 road games, so it looks like points will also be hard to come by playing on no rest in San Antonio on Wednesday night.

3) Philadelphia 76ers (27-28) (21-31 O/U) (1-3-1 O/U L/5 +$190): The Sixers saw their six-game ‘under’ streak come to a close in a gut wrenching fashion their last time out against the New Jersey Nets. With a couple ticks left in the game and the Sixers holding a 96-95 lead, NJ guard Devin Harris’ double-clutched half court heave rang true to hand the Sixers one of the toughest SU losses of the NBA season. The loss was also heartbreaking for ‘under’ bettors who had to of broken something when the shot miraculously hit pay dirt. That said; the Sixers continue to kill themselves by missing free throws (#27 at 74.4%) and proving to be completely inept from beyond the arc (#30 at 31.5%). Those are two of the main reasons they wrapped the first half of the season up as the best ‘under’ bet in the NBA. Their next five games find them pitted against Washington, New York, Orlando, New Orleans, and Memphis. They’ve played in a couple low scorers with Washington already this season, and their first two meetings with NY went ‘under’ before both teams combined for 226 points about the time NY’s offense finally started to get it in late January .

And the rest…..

4) Utah Jazz (34-23) (30-26 O/U) (2-3 O/U L/5 +$80)

5) Cleveland Cavaliers (43-11) (24-30 O/U) (2-3 O/U L/5 +$80)

6) Detroit Pistons (27-27) (22-31 O/U) (2-3 O/U L/5 +$80)

7) Charlotte Bobcats (22-34) (24-30 O/U) (2-3 O/U L/5 +$80)
