Florida A&M

The Rattlers play at the Football Championship Subdivision level and really won’t have a chance to win this game despite the fact that they have been picked by most college gridiron observers to finish second in the MEAC.

Texas A&M returns five first team preseason All-Conference players and three players that earned second team honors while third-year head coach Joe Taylor has recorded a jaw-dropping 214-82-4 record in 27 seasons as a head coach.

The Rattlers went 8-3 last season while averaging 28.0 points and 370.3 total yards per game. The team is led by 5-foot-7 running back Philip Sylvester and 6-2 wideout Isaac West.
Sylvester ran for 455 yards and seven touchdowns on 112 carries in 2009 while West grabbed 36 balls for 641 yards.

Miami Hurricanes

The Hurricanes went 9-4 in 2009 and ended its season on a sour note by losing to Wisconsin 20-14 in the Champs Sports Bowl.

Nevertheless, head coach Randy Shannon has resurrected a Miami program that was on life support when he took over the program four years ago and now has the Hurricanes in position to really compete for an ACC title they figured on being in the running for last season.

The Hurricanes are looking to build on the program’s best record since the 2005 and have a boatload of talent to try and accomplish their goals with.

The Hurricanes are 7-1 all-time against Florida A&M, including a 48-16 rout last season and probably won’t have much trouble at all in overcoming the losses of five starters on offense, thanks to the jaw-dropping skills of sophomore quarterback Jacory Harris.

The fleet-footed signal-caller completed 59.6 percent of his passes last season for 3,352 yards with 24 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.

Harris has a plethora of athletic skill players just waiting to get their hands on the ball, starting with Biletnikoff Award candidate Leonard Hankerson (45 receptions, for 801 yards, six TDs).

Senior running back Damien Berry will get the majority of the carries for the Hurricanes while Graig Cooper recovers from a serious knee injury.

The Hurricanes return eight starters on defense, including All-America defensive lineman candidate Allen Bailey and linebackers Colin McCarthy and Sean Spence.

Analysis: With no odds posted for this contest, college football fans everywhere can sit back and enjoy watching the Hurricanes beat up on their lesser talented opponents in this one.

The Hurricanes may not be quite ready to challenge the very best D-I teams for a BCS title or anything, but they are light years ahead of Florida A&M in talent level alone.

If you like seeing the ‘Big Boys’ beat up on the ‘Sisters of the Blind’ as is always the case in the first week of college football, then you’ll enjoy this contest for sure!

Expert NCAAF Pick: Miami 42 Florida A&M 14
