Pittsburgh Panthers vs. Utah Utes ( Rice-Eccles Stadium – Salt Lake City, UT)
Thursday September 2 nd at 8:30 PM ET – TV: VERSUS
NCAAF Spread:

Utah – PS -3 (-115) ML -150
Total – 48 ½
Utah Utes lost a few key pieces from last year’s squad, a team that went a very impressive 10-3, but that’s the nature of college football. And for every guy you lose, you look to pick up something better and the Utes may have just gotten better than last year. Many football people feel that they are going to have one of the top producing offenses in the country, and although their defence still has some question marks, they’ve got the coaching staff to make it work.
Back to that offense for a second, the two-headed running back attack in Matt Asiata and Eddie Wide is going to be giving defence’s fits. They’ve got a very deep receiving corps including some tight end sets that are going to pose some difficult matchups. Jordan Wynn will be the guy in charge of spreading it around, and although he’s just a sophomore, the quarterback has six career starts under his belt and should be just fine in there.
Pittsburgh Panthers comes into town looking to avenge the 2005 Fiesta Bowl, a game they were embarrassed in by the Utes to the tune of 35-7. The team is now in the hands of sophomore Tino Sunseri, who replaces a solid ball manager in Bill Stull. He won’t be asked to do too much as Pitt will rely heavily on the run, which was their bread and butter from last year, accounting for 180 yards per game in 2009. They’ve got an All American running back Dion Lewis who is one of the guys that is expected to be in the running for the Heisman Trophy at the end of the year. Jonathan Baldwin is also another guy to keep an eye on as he is an NFL size receiver who should have a breakout year.
But the Panthers still have some kinks to work out on the front end and will be playing in a very hostile stadium, as this is the first time Utah has opened against a ranked team. The Utes don’t appear to have those question marks, which is why they are favoured against the NCAAF Spread. Their defense which finished 19th in the Nation in total yards allowed, and 23rd in total points given up last year, is as solid as ever.
This is going to be, without a doubt, the game of the night. Utah is going to have the home field advantage, a sold out stadium that will be going bananas, and will be ready for everything Pitt throws at them.
NCAAF Spread Prediction: Utah -3 (-115)
