NFL Betting News – LeBron Watch Is Over, Brett Favre’s Just Starting

July 12, 2010

Now that we’ve all had time to recover from our LeBron Watch hangovers, it’s now time to turn to Brett Favre’s decision for the 2010 NFL online betting season. By comparison to the self proclaimed King of the NBA, Favre’s guessing game doesn’t seem like such a jackwagon show now does it? For all intents and purposes the Brett Favre watch won’t have all the mystery, frustration and anxiety it played out last season. It’s nearly a 100% certainty that the league leader in khaki shorts will return for his 21st NFL season.

Favre’s season last year was an incredible rebound from his tenure with the Jets. He posted a 107.2 quarterback ratings (2nd in the NFL), 263 yards per game (9th), 33 touchdowns (tied for 2nd) and just 7 interceptions (1st amongst starters). Makes you wonder what you’ll be doing when you’re 40-years old doesn’t it?

Minnesota finished first in the NFC North with a 13-3 SU record, and also gave back heavy returns for their NFL betting investors with a handy 9-6 ATS record in the regular season. Through the playoffs, they looked unbeatable until Brett Favre cost them the NFC Championship, and a Super Bowl berth, by throwing a costly pick in the fourth quarter that cost the Vikings a chance at a game winning field goal.

It was an auspicious ending to the NFL betting season for the Vikings, but it was a fitting end to yet another Brett Favre year. He’s known for his interceptions in precarious moments, and that’s not how he wanted his career to end. I don’t blame him.

We won’t hear any news about Brett’s return to the NFL until after training camp is done. There are those that probably hate the fact that he skips training camp, but that’s a program designed to teach younger players what the NFL is all about. There’s absolutely nothing that Favre can learn from a training camp that he hasn’t already picked up a career that’s spanned two decades.

The oddsmakers in Vegas are already assuming that the Vikings will have Favre back in the fold for the 2010 NFL betting season. Minnesota’s +130 odds are right behind the current division favorites, who also happen to be Brett’s former team. The Green Bay Packers are the tight favorites to win the division at +125. Chicago trails with +350 NFL betting odds, and the Detroit Lions fall way behind with a laughable +2000.

All the pieces that made Minnesota such a great team last season will be back in the fold this year as well. There’s an injury to Sidney Rice’s hip that is somewhat of a concern, but the team’s leading receiver is sure to be back catching passes from Favre. Rice led all Vikings pass catchers with 1,312 yards and 8 touchdowns.

The Packers are one of the best teams in the NFL. That part can’t be argued with. What you can’t ignore, however, is that Brett Favre, Adrian Peterson, Sidney Rice and a viscious defensive line led by Jared Allen is already a proven formula for winning in the NFL.

The question isn’t whether or not he returns. The real conundrum is whether Brett Favre can recapture the magic from last season and make the Minnesota Vikings another sterling NFL betting pick.

All signs thus far point to an emphatic “yes”.
