NFL Line for Preseason – Patriots at Giants

September 2, 2010

A rematch of the classic Super Bowl matchup from three years ago, tonight’s NFL line for the preseason game between the Patriots and Giants will not feature most of the players from that game. It will, however, most likely be just as competitive with players fighting for their jobs and livelihoods in the last preseason game of the season.

This is an NFL game that betting fans have had an eye on for much of the week and now two of the NFL’s most popular franchises are just about ready to kick off the last game of the preseason.

With most starters expected to play a handful of plays at most, tonight’s game comes down to which team wants it most, whether or not the home crowd will be much of a factor, and of course which team has the best talent and depth on its bench.

The Giants will have the home crowd behind them and that counts for a lot in this setting on the last day of the preseason when fans are ready for the season to begin and are more into the game than many of the players who have already secured jobs.

That will give the Giants the boost they need to win this NFL game down the stretch if it becomes close.

Both teams have average-to-mediocre second-team quarterbacks in this one as Brian Hoyer has shown some skills but doesn’t have the arm strength necessary to make big plays happen most of the time and Rhett Bomar hasn’t been too reliable as the second option for the Giants. But NY will need him to cover the NFL line tonight.

Bomar will have more playmakers at his disposal, however, as the Giants are the younger and hungrier team with more fresh legs in the backfield than the Patriots and at wide receiver where injuries have hurt the Pats’ depth.

Victor Cruz in particular could be the key to NY scoring enough to take home the win in this one, the virtual unknown has been on fire in the preseason and he could be the difference tonight.

NFL pick: New York Giants (-3).
