Preview of UFC 113 Predictions – Koscheck vs Daley

May 8, 2010

What makes the Josh Koscheck vs. Paul Daley fight so interesting is that, not only are these two fighters extremely talented and have a genuine dislike for one another, but the winner is likely next in line for a shot at Georges St. Pierre and the Welterweight title. If you’re looking for a recipe for fireworks, that might be it.

UFC 113: Josh Koscheck vs. Paul Daley

Saturday, May 8th – Live on PPV ( 7:30 pm ET)

Josh Koscheck has always been known as a cocky fighter and the heavy-handed Paul “Semtex” Daley out of the UK doesn’t find Koscheck’s routine very amusing. Daley would like nothing more than to put his opponent to sleep via a big right hand but that’s right up there on Koshcheck’s wish list for the evening as well. So let’s see if we can’t find an angle that gets some money in your pocket while we watch these two try to take each other’s heads off.

UFC 113 Betting Line:

Josh Koscheck (-240) vs. Paul Daley (+190)

Koscheck has come along way since his days as an Ultimate Fighter cast member, as a fighter at least. His personality still needs some work, but he has clearly been putting in the work and has developed from a good wrestler into a good wrestler that can knock you out. If you watched the Ultimate Fighter, you knew that his wrestling and top control were extremely good, but if you’ve watched him progress, you will have notices that he is actually a solid striker as well.

The problem with Josh Koscheck is that he is too cocky for his own good and thinks he can walk in and just start knocking everyone out just because he learned how to chuck the leather. Abandoning his bread and butter, wrestling, has caused him to lose a few fights he may have won if he hadn’t let his ego get in the way. If he lets Daley get under his skin and decides to stand there and trade with the big Britt, he may find himself in dreamland before he knows it.

Daley can flat out strike. He has knockout power for days, but his problem is that his game is very one dimensional. His takedown defense is questionable, and against a guy like Koscheck who has world class wrestling ability, he had better hope this thing stays standing as long as possible. Koscheck knows this, and if Daley can’t stop him from getting this thing to the mat, it could be a long night of eating elbows for Daley.

I think if Daley is going to have any shot at winning this fight, it is in the first round. Koscheck will want to stand and trade with him for at least one or two exchanges to prove he’s man enough, but as soon as he gets a taste of Daley’s power, he’ll shoot faster than Billy the Kid. So that gives Daley a few opportunities to end this thing, but weighing this fight on their abilities, Koscheck is by far the better fighter.

And when we’re laying down a bet, taking the guy with the punchers chance usually leaves your bank empty.

Koshcheck is a better fighter and is my pick to win on Saturday night at (-240)
