Santa Anita Park Pick 3 of the day

February 11, 2010

With no rain expected for at least the next 36 hours, Santa Anita Park should once again become the American horseplayers’ favorite track. Santa Anita has another full card of 8 races scheduled for Thursday.

Race 6 starts Thursday’s Pick 3 of the Day. Why don’t you log onto the BetOnline online racebook and bet it?

1st Leg: 6:36 pm EST

Pick 3 of the Day: Santa Anita Park

Race 6

Maiden Special Weight $44,000 For Three Year Olds

6 ½ furlongs on Pro-Ride

Horses Used: 4-Beachrock, 6-Imperial Pride, 7-Big Man Has A Sign, 8-Tiz A Knight

Analysis: Trainer Eoin Harty only wins with 10% of his first time starters but Beachrock debuts with Rafael Bejarano on his back and terrific works. The 3 year old gelded son of Maria’s Mon could win at first asking. Imperial Pride was fantastic in his first race, a 2nd place finish by a ½ a length. Pride went off as the favorite in that race and will do so again in this. Unless, of course, Big Man Has A Sign, who hasn’t run since last December, takes all of the money. Trainer Julio Canani is winning with 27% of his starters at the meet and Big Man Has A Sign could get the lead all to himself in this. Tiz A Knight was purchased for $300,000, was sired by Tiznow, gets Garrett Gomez on his back and runs for 22% winning debut maiden special weight trainer Ron Ellis. Tiz A Knight has also produced some nice works in the morning. He’s a must use.

Race 7

Horses Used: 2-Church Camp, 4-Millenia, 6-Pink Blossom

Analysis: Church Camp goes first time over the Pro-Ride after having won her maiden at Churchill Downs by 4 ¾ lengths last November. If she likes the surface, then she’s going to be very, very tough in this. Millenia hasn’t run since breaking her maiden over Del Mar’s Polytrack surface this past July. Trainer Lisa Lewis is only 13% with her comebackers, but Millenia has been tearing it up in the mornings and I believe she’ll keep her 8 to 1 morning line odds when they break from the gate. There’s a good chance that Pink Blossom will run the rest of this field off of its feet. Blossom carved out a 21 quarter and 44 half before winning her maiden race by a ½ a length in her debut. She goes a ½ a length less in distance in this race. That can only help her chances.

Race 8

$8,000 Claiming For Fillies and Mares Four Years Old and Up

1 1/16th miles on Pro-Ride

Horses Used: 5-Pokomoke, 10-Recess

Analysis: Pokomoke takes a slight drop in class from the $12,500 level. That could be all that’s needed as trainer Jeff Mullins is 26% winners with his down one class starters and 26% winners with his claiming starters. If Pokomoke runs back to a few of those turf races she ran in last summer, she could destroy this field. Recess goes first time for trainer Cesar Dominguez. Dominguez is 0 for 9 first time after the claim this year, but there is precious little speed in this race which means that Recess could have the lead all to herself. Recess could to wire to wire in this.

Combinations: 4 x 3 x 2 = 24

$1 Pick 3 = $24
