Take Hawkeyes as Underdogs on NCAA Football Betting Lines vs Buckeyes
September 1, 2010
Last season’s NCAA football betting encounter between the Ohio State Buckeyes and Iowa Hawkeyes was clearly for a chance to play in the Rose Bowl. When they hook up in 2010, even more could be on the line, as both of these teams are going to have a legitimate chance of playing for the BCS National Championship.
Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Iowa Hawkeyes

Game Location: Kinnick Stadium, Iowa City, IA

The Buckeyes are the clear cut favorites on the NCAA football betting futures to win the Big Ten this year. They’re also the second choice to win the BCS National Championship behind the defending champion Alabama Crimson Tide.

However, this is going to be one of the toughest tasks the team has to face. The Buckeyes were pushed last year by the Hawkeyes into overtime at the Horseshoe, and this trip to Kinnick Stadium has to scare the you know what out of them.
Bottom line: The offense has to be solid for Ohio State to win this game. We already know that, due to the fact that this is a Big Ten game, the two defenses will be playing hard core ball. The key is going to be whether Terrelle Pryor can take care of the football or not. If he can, Ohio State has a chance to win this game and Pryor will probably emerge as a legitimate Heisman Trophy candidate. If not, Ohio State is in some real trouble.
Why is that? Because Ricky Stanzi will hopefully be healthy and ready to go in this one. Stanzi missed last year’s big game with the Buckeyes due to injury, and Iowa was still able to force overtime. Now, all of the cogs to that offense are back and ready to roll.
Stanzi might not be the greatest quarterback the world has ever seen, but he certainly has the intangibles that make him a great leader on the field. Iowa is also going to have a very deep rushing attack this year, led by Adam Robinson, who rushed for 74 yards on Ohio State in last season’s duel.
The keys are going to be receivers Marvin McNutt and Derrell Johnson-Koulianos, though. Both proved that they could be legitimate NFL prospects all season long, and with backup James Vandenberg throwing them passes, they combined for nine receptions, 149 yards, and two TDs.
The Buckeyes were getting a ton of respect right off the bat in this one, as they were 3.5 point road favorites when the NCAA football futures betting odds were released. Iowa is going to be a legitimate team this year, though. Don’t be surprised if it is a favorite by the time November 20th rolls around. Take the Hawkeyes as any type of underdogs you can on the NCAA football betting lines in this one, as this is going to be a heck of a duel in which points will be at a premium.
