Tennis Betting Picks – Petzschner and Kohslchreiber in Action at Mercedes Cup

July 13, 2010

Stuttgart, Germany – Germany’s Philipp Petzschner and Philipp Kohlschreiber begin their bid for the Mercedes Cup on Tuesday.

These two home favourites are perhaps Germany’s best hope for a homegrown champion.

The draw is stacked deep with heavyweights such as Nikolay Davydenko, Jurgen Melzer, Gael Monfils and Juan Carlos Ferrero, to name a few, all of whom are bookies choice favourites ahead of the German duo for the title this week.

Petzschner and Kohlschreiber will have to overcome some stiff opposition before they can even bid for the title.

Tennis Betting Line: Florian Mayer +250 Philipp Kohlschreiber -400

First Set Line: Florian Mayer +200 Philipp Kohlschreiber -300

Match Time:05:00 AM Eastern Time (11:00 AM Local Time) Tuesday July 13, 2010

Tennis Betting Verdict: Kohlschreiber opens his tournament against compatriot Florian Mayer.

Kohlschreiber is a solid -400 favourite. He takes a 2-0 edge over Mayer, including a 1-0 edge on 2010 having beaten Mayer at the Miami Masters in March.

Over and above to his positive head-to-head edge over Mayer, Kohlschreiber owns a significant ranking edge over Mayer and boasts solid form on the season.

Philipp Kohlschreiber is 23-15 on the term, which includes a semi appearance in Auckland and four additional quarterfinal appearances – San Jose, Monte Carlo Masters, Munich and Halle.

Tennis Free Picks: Kohlschreiber in straight sets

Tennis Betting Line: Albert Montanes -165 Philipp Petzschner +125

First Set Line: Albert Montanes -155 Philipp Petzschner +115

Match Time:05:00 AM Eastern Time (11:00 AM Local Time) Tuesday July 13, 2010

Tennis Sport Betting Verdict: Philipp Petzschner is preparing for his first-ever clash against Albert Montanes, going into the encounter as the bookies underdog, albeit a mere puppy at +125.

Petzschner is after a solid account at Wimbledon where he took Nadal to five sets in the R32. Overall, he is 20-13 on the season with four semi appearances – Halle and Munich (both of which are home events), and Zagreb and Memphis earlier this season.

Montanes is a solid clay-courter and arrives in Stuttgart on the back of some encouraging results this term. Overall, he is 21-15 on the term with one title.

In Estoril, he beat Federer in the semis to clinch his lone title on the term. For good reason is Montanes the favourite at -165.

That said Petzschner tends to play better on home soil than anywhere else. The weight of expectation doesn’t knock a bother out of him.

On paper, he stacks up rather well against Montanes, giving him every reason to believe he can beat the favoured Spaniard before a whole slew of German supporters.

Tennis Free Picks: Petzschner in three sets
