Tuesday Night NHL Double Header Betting
December 8, 2009
There are just four games for NHL betting on Tuesday. However, the light schedule is heavy on value with some NHL neighbors paying a visit. Here’s a look at a couple teams making a short trip down the road on Tuesday night:
Montreal Canadiens at Ottawa Senators
The Habs picked up an inspired win over the Boston Bruins on Friday, giving the franchise a victory on its 100th anniversary celebration. That 5-1 win snapped a four-game skid for Montreal heading into Monday’s contest versus Philadelphia at home. The Canadiens’ five-goal night Friday nearly matched their goal total during their recent skid. Montreal got a hat trick from Michael Cammalleri – all coming in the second period – which snapped a four-game scoreless slump for the scrappy forward.
The Senators are happy to be home after a rough west coast road swing. Ottawa had lost four straight games during that trip but closed out with a 4-3 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday. Team owner Eugene Melnyk isn’t happy with his franchise’s recent performance and called out the Senators’ star players. While he didn’t mention any names, the finger is pointing at slumping scorer Jason Spezza, who has just two goals in his last 10 games, and Alex Kovalev, who hasn’t scored since October 29.

New York Islanders at Philadelphia Flyers
Consistency has plagued the Islanders this season. New York heads into Tuesday alternating wins and loss in its last six games. The Islanders’ most recent effort was a 4-0 shutout loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday night. New York has struggled to replace the injured Rick DiPietro between the pipes. It has switched between Dwayne Roloson and Martin Biron all season, allowing almost three goals on more than 27 shots faced a night. The team is hoping to have the former first-overall pick back in late December, but will have to survive the shoddy defense and shaky goaltending until then.
The Flyers continue to be the biggest disappointment in the NHL, losing three straight games to fall to 13-12-1 heading into Monday’s outing in Montreal. That letdown cost John Stevens his job as head coach, and new head coach Peter Laviolette lost his debut in an 8-2 beating at the hands of the Washington Capitals on the weekend. On top of that, the team is dealing with a four-game suspension to tough guy Daniel Carcillo, who took a cheap shot at Washington forward Matt Bradley in that defeat.
