UFC 116 Betting – Stephan Bonnar vs. Krzysztof Soszynski Rematch
July 3, 2010
The first matchup between Krzysztof Soszynski and Stephan Bonnar was controversial, as a doctor’s stoppage gave Soszynski the win. But the two seemed so closely match and capable of producing a great fight again that a rematch was granted.
Now, the UFC betting favorite Krzysztof Soszynski and the UFC betting underdog Stephan Bonnar will go at it again at UFC 116. Sports betting fans know Bonnar hasn’t been a safe bet recently, while Soszynski has overdelivered in many of his recent fights.
The odds have Krzysztof Soszynski listed as a -230 favorite to +180 UFC betting odds for Bonnar going into Saturday night’s fight. Bonnar needs this one to stay in the UFC or to at least stay remotely relevant. While UFC President Dana White said he has a special relationship with Bonnar and said he could stay in the league as long as he wants, the reality of the situation is that a loss here would make it tough to justify keeping The Ultimate Fighter Season 1 runner-up around any longer in the light heavyweight division.
Krzysztof Soszynski on the other hand also needs a win in the worst way. He is not the most physically gifted guy in terms of speed and athletic ability so he is not seen as a prospect with great upside. He also isn’t a wrestler so he needs to show more ability to justify the UFC keeping him around should he lose this fight and perhaps his next one.
Krzysztof Soszynski (21-9 record) does have more power than Bonnar, however, and that could give him the edge in this fight. He also has a mean submission game that Bonnar will have to be aware of.
Many MMA betting fans believe Bonnar (11-7 record) is a good value in this fight but he simply doesn’t have the power to finish Krzysztof Soszynski in this one and that gives him few ways to win the fight because a submission for UFC betting fans is unlikely.
MMA betting fans would do well to stick with Krzysztof Soszynski, who won the first fight and seems poised to do it again.
UFC betting pick: Krzysztof Soszynski (-230) by unanimous decision.
