Leading Up To UFC 118: BJ Penn
After successfully defending his title for two years following the submission win over Joe Stevenson that granted BJ Penn the UFC Lightweight Championship for the first time back in 2008, the man known by fans as “The Prodigy” finally fell at UFC 112. The Pay Per View was called Invincible, and leading in to it the two champions defending their title appeared to be just that at the level in which they were competing, but that was not the case for one of them as Penn fell to Frankie Edgar by unanimous decision. Rarely does a title change hands based on judge’s decision, but in this case the fight was lopsided enough that the scoring was completely in favor of Edgar. Now, after four months to think about the loss and train for the rematch, BJ Penn is ready to get back in to the octagon and reclaim his title.

Leading Up To UFC 118: Frankie Edgar
With just one loss in 13 career fights, Frankie Edgar finally got his due when he defeated Penn for the title. A well-rounded fighter that can knock opponents out with his heavy hands, or submit them with his above-average ground game, the 28-year old has won four straight fights and is only now entering in to the prime of his career. With the momentum and confidence that came with dropping the former champion, Edgar looks to prove to the MMA world that he is after all “The Answer” to BJ Penn’s run at the top of the 155-pound division.
UFC 118 Match Up: Penn vs Edgar
Few would have predicted that a fighter that had yet to take on many notable names in the sport would be able to pull off an upset victory over a champion that had dominated the lightweight division over the previous two years. That was the case with Frankie Edgar’s first win over BJ Penn to take the title, now it is up to Edgar to show the world that the victory was more than just fluke.
