UFC 118 Preview – Edgar Out to Prove Championship Status as UFC Underdog Again Versus Penn
August 28, 2010
The living legend that is Randy Couture seemed relaxed and ready to rock when he stopped to chat with BetFlix about how he’s prepping for his upcoming match UFC 118. Obviously, this has been a big summer for Randy as he made his major movie debut in The Expendables. Randy hints that his movie career may still have some legs, but one thing we know for sure is that his fight career still has some life left in it as well.
While some of us may have found it hard to imagine Couture on the silver screen, it’s not like he’s stepping that far out of his own element as a media front man for the UFC. He’s been in the spotlight and at the forefront of the sport for well over a decade and to see him take some time to bank on his personal fame to get in to one of the biggest blockbusters of the summer is a deserving side venture.

Couture isn’t the only former champion stepping out of his element this summer. James “Lights Out” Toney will step away from the boxing ring, where he’s accumulated a record of 72-6-3 SU over the span of an illustrious 22-year career, and take his first step in to the octagon where he’ll face the Couture in the co-main event at UFC 118 on Saturday, August 28th.
As far as UFC 118 betting goes, Toney isn’t being given much of a chance. He’s listed as a +450 underdog compared to Randy’s -700 odds as the heavy favorite. Maybe the former Heavyweight Boxing Champion of the world has something up his gargantuan sleeves, but nobody has ever underestimated what Couture has been capable in an MMA betting matchup.
It will be unlike any bout between former Heavyweight Champions in their respective sports. This fight has the odd feeling of being a gimmick infested match, but rest assured that at the end of the days this is exactly what it’s being called – a fight.
They’re both well over 40-years old. Both have been in major movies (Toney was in Ali starring Will Smith). Both are world heavyweight champions in their own right. On Saturday, at UFC 118, only one man will get the win.
