UFC Betting – Munoz vs. Grove – The Best Middleweight Fight on the Card

April 9, 2010

The Pay-Per-View portion of UFC 112 starts with a fight that just may be the one that fans are left talking about. Mark Munoz and Kendall Grove will do battle in the early favourite for the “Fight of the Night” bonus money.

UFC 112: Invincible

Date: Apr 10, 2010

Location: Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
Venue: Concert Arena (at the Ferrari World theme park on Yas Island)
Broadcast: Pay-per-view

Mark Munoz (7-1): -200

Mark Munoz will take his three fight win streak and impressive 7-1 record into the Octagon on Saturday night in attempt to make a name for himself in the UFC Middleweight division. Munoz is primarily a wrestler but is fairly well versed in Muay Thai and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. He is a two time All-American wrestler that has recently started training with the Nogueira brothers.

Munoz will try to close the distance with the much taller Kendall Grove and should be able to exploit Grove’s weak take down defense. Although he is not known as a great striker, Munoz is well aware of Grove’s questionable chin. He has brought in taller lankier sparring partners to prepare for Grove’s length and should not be caught off guard by his taller opponent. By keeping his distance, avoiding the clinch and taking Grove down, Munoz should be able to have his way with “The Ultimate Fighter 3” champion.

Kendall Grove (13-6):  +160

Kendall Grove is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioner who is known for his lethal Muay Thai skills. He has great hands and great feet and possesses a height and reach advantage over most of his competitors. He has had an up and down career since winning “The Ultimate Fighter 3” and some have questioned his heart and desire.

Kendall Grove will be looking to keep this fight standing, to pin Munoz against the Cage and to unleash his lethal knees and elbows. Grove is best when he is allowed to dictate the fight and is able to employ a relentless combination of kicks, punches elbows and knees. He will have to avoid the takedown as he is susebtable to a ground and pound attack. When taken to the ground, Grove has the ability to employ his jiu-jitsu training and occasionally submit his opponent. The question is whether or not he can weather a ground and pound storm and avoid being the victim of a referee stoppage.

Kendall Grove should be motivated fighting before his training partner BJ Penn but Munoz might be a little too much for him to handle. Grove’s weaknesses play right into the hands of Munoz whose power, takedown ability and intense ground and pound game should take over. Munoz has proven that he can take some punishment and once he weathers whatever storm that Grove is capable of, he might just take Kendall’s will away right before he takes a TKO win.
