UFC Fight Night
Gray Maynard (8-0-1) vs. Nate Diaz (11-4-0)
UFC Betting Line: Maynard -300
Leading up to UFC Fight Night:
Gray Maynard is a focused fighter right now and more importantly, he’s undefeated. He’s won six straight UFC fights but he hasn’t been completely dominant as five of those have been decisions.
This is going to be a rematch from The Ultimate Fighter 5 where the two fighters met up midseason. Diaz choked him out with a guillotine in the semifinal and eventually went on to win it, so you can bet that Maynard is looking for some revenge.
Diaz looked to be a bright prospect but losses to Clay Guida and Joe Stevenson have really derailed that train of thought. Now he’s considered mediocre, which could make him right for the picking against Maynard.

UFC Fight Night Betting: Maynard vs. Diaz Matchup
The first time these fighters got together, Maynard wasn’t very polished. A lot has changed since that time. Now he’s a far more patient fighter and that should be the difference in this contest.
Diaz has a big bag of submission tricks but for some reason, he typically finds himself lying on his back in most fights, which doesn’t pose too much of a threat to his opponents.
Maynard won’t be afraid to take the fight to the ground this time around as his wrestling skills have improved dramatically. He’s a big guy and he can rag-doll fighters once they get on the ground, which could be a problem for Diaz. Better yet, he’s tough to take down and his striking has also improved. This could be a very tough matchup for Diaz.
UFC Fight Night Betting: Outlook & Pick
You can expect Maynard to take a good look at how Stevenson and Guida beat Diaz and use a very similar formula. Diaz can be dangerous on the ground because he’s always just one move away from submitting someone but realistically, that’s all Maynard has to be weary of.
Maynard is a very good wrestler and since Diaz won’t have that advantage on the ground, this fight could be a problem for him. Maynard can go toe-to-toe on the mat and if that’s the case, it’s hard to envision Diaz taking a decision.
Look for Maynard to overwhelm him and take another decision win.
Pick: Maynard -300
